Buen Provecho Café - Trenton

I attempted to dine here on Thursday at 5:30 PM, but the restaurant was closed. The posted hours for today indicated they should be open from 12 PM to 7 PM. We were quite disappointed.

Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5 I highly recommend trying the Chuleta Kan Kan, Flan, Churrasco with Green Salad, Surtido Boricua, and Trifongo.

The food was great! They were pretty busy and we didn't have a reservation but we were seated in 10 minutes. Our waitress was very nice and explained the menu well. It took quite a while for the food to come out but the wait is definitely worth it. We had the octopus salad for an appetizer and then pernil with arroz con gandules and the chipotle shrimp bowl for our entrees. The food portions are great and you can tell the meal was made by someone who takes pride in their cooking. Parking: Because it's a fairly small place the parking can be a bit tight when it's busy.

As a WASP, I can't comment on the authenticity of the Puerto Rican cuisine, but my girlfriend and I found the food to be absolutely delicious, and we would definitely return. The portion sizes are generous, and the slice of coconut rum cake I had for dessert was easily large enough to share. The service was friendly and casual, creating a welcoming atmosphere. The ambiance is relaxed; if there's such a thing as a Puerto Rican pub, this would be it. Note that it's a BYOB establishment, so be sure to bring your own drinks. We strongly recommend making reservations.
