The Pioneer Kitchen - Torrey

We enjoyed dinner here twice. The food was good and the serving staff very friendly.

Portions were smaller than expected and there isn't a ton of variety, especially on the kids menu. Food was fine but nothing to write home about. Service was attentive but not in our faces. Almost every item on the menu comes with fruit and potatoes,including the kids menu (even though it isn't listed there; that was confusing). Overall, I wouldn't be against eating hereagain, but it wouldn't be at the top of my list.

This restaurant seems to be a low-budget operation trying to make a big profit, not because they deserve it, but because they believe they can get away with it. The owners either have no clue about their customers or are simply taking advantage of them, as the food and overall experience were laughable. Given the high prices—over $20 per plate—I expected a great meal, but the food was sadly overpriced, with very small portions. For the first time at a restaurant, I actually lost my appetite upon seeing the food, which looked quite disheartening. The only reason I didn't rate it one star is that the flavor was decent for the most part, but that might have been due to my lowered expectations after the initial presentation. On top of everything else, the service was poor, and we waited over an hour for our food. It was such a disappointment, and in hindsight, I should have recognized the warning signs and chosen a different place.

On September 13, 2022, we had dinner for four. We ordered two steaks, one trout, and one catfish taco, and everyone enjoyed their meals immensely. The trout was particularly delicious. For an appetizer, we shared a chicken nacho platter that was sizable enough for all of us. Our waiter, who I think was also the manager, was very friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. We had a 5:00 PM reservation because the entire restaurant was booked for two busloads of people at 6:30. It seemed like this made the manager a bit anxious or stressed, which was noticeable.

I brought my entire team to this restaurant after our canyoneering adventure in the area. The burgers were outstanding! Our waiter, Shaun, was friendly and shared numerous local tips on great spots to explore.
