Death In Venice Gelato (dundas St W)

I’ve been wanting to try this place for a while and finally got to get some gelato after dinner. I opted for one of their seasonal gelatos, the pumpkin caramel pie. It was delicious! It was between that flavour and the ricotta rosemary lemon. I did try both flavours before purchasing. Both were good, but I didn’t really taste a lot of lemon in that one flavour. I’m definitely going to return to try the other flavours.

I first heard about DIVG, because their gelatos were served at a Google event. I got to try a variety of flavours and the cheeseboard flavour blew me away. So creative and delicious!!! It’s a must try. I kept dreaming about it, so I had to go to the store and pick up a pint for a night in. While at the store, I got a double scope in a waffle cone (smoked pecan and maple butter tart, and pistachio yogurt baklava). As a frozen desserts connoisseur, I really appreciate the layering and complexity of flavour components. The service was also awesome. I saw they have a gelato tasting so I’ll have to check it out soon.

The browned butter cinnamon soft serve was absolutely fantastic. As someone who grew up in Wisconsin, known for its delicious dairy products, I can confidently say that this is one of the best ice creams I have ever tasted. The browned butter flavor was rich and intricate, reminiscent of brown sugar with a buttery texture that was not greasy at all. The perfect balance of cinnamon and a hint of saltiness made this dessert truly exceptional.

I was extremely disappointed with my experience at this restaurant. The highly praised chessboard gelato was supposed to have brie and pear as the main ingredients, but I couldn't detect any of the earthy brie notes or pear flavor, even after finishing the entire dessert. There were no visible chunks of brie either, and the texture leaned more towards ice cream than authentic gelato. Additionally, the price listed on the website was $11.75, but I was charged $12.25 in-store, with the explanation that there were no taxes included in the price.

I absolutely adore the gelato at this restaurant! They offer a wide variety of vegan options, as well as classic and unique flavors. Recently, I tried the white peach soft serve and it was perfectly balanced, flavorful, and not overly sweet. The ambiance is also lovely, allowing me to relax and enjoy my gelato. This is a must-visit for all gelato and ice cream enthusiasts.
