La Barrila - Toledo

Unlike Portugal and France, Spain has no tradition at all of cafés, so grabbing a bite waiting for the speed train back to Madrid had to be there. The design of the station is amazing and it follows in the cafeteria, which offers more than only coffee, orange juice, pastries, small saladas and soft drinks, but some portable electronic items or even toiletteries. Prices are fine and the only thing missing is wifi.

This is a lovely moorish decorated cafe in the railway station. We had 2 glasses of red wine MDR they were excellent. We didn’t have any food however as we had other plans for the evening in Madrid. The service was excellent as well as the pricing.

This place is right at the train station. You go inside and it looks like a great place to grab a coffee, a sandwich or a glass of wine. I sit down and the bartender/lady behind the counter sees me come in. I sit right next to a couple that she is currently helping. The lady serving wore a name Tate with the name “Eli” on it. I wait my turn and i should. Then 5 minutes passes. Then 10 minutes passes. The. What looks to be a mother and daughter sit down right next to me. Before i know it “Eli” asks to take their order. Confused, i ask Eli if i need to stand in line in order to place an order. My Spanish isn’t that good so i type the question into google translator and ask the mother and daughter sitting next to me if they can translate this question Eli. They ask Eli and then Eli proceeds to yell at me that i must wait. Then the mother tells Eli that I was actually there before she was and that i had not been helped yet. Finally after additional huffing and puffing of Eli, she asks me what i want. I finally get a glass of wine. Worst service ever. If you’re going to Toledo and you get off at the train station here, do not go to this place, at least when Eli is working.

You won't miss your train sitting here you are right next to the platform! However, we saw one patron ask for an ice cube for his large draft beer so make sue you ask for a cold one or get a long neck from the fridge. Bartender friendly and helpful.
