Bidrage med feedbackWe thought for brunch and the service was super nice and attentive eating amount was generous enough to share a teller between children. it was not as spiced as some have said, but the spice is on the table. add to their taste...which is good for people with nutritional sensitivity. icy was delicious! the chicken steak was super delicate and thick.and not strongly coated. which is also good.
I took my wife and I for mother's day breakfast, it was busy with a little bit of a wait. The service was very good and food was very good, plates were cold because of that my pancake didn't melt the butter! At the original Fern Cafe Smitty and Katie always made sure that all hot food was served on hot plates. I know this for a fact as I am the eldest of 3 children of Roy Edward Smith and Katheryn Elisabeth Savory Smith more well known as Smitty and Katie). Would have liked to have seen more pictures of the old Fern Cafe, oh and one last thing, should have some more waiting seating especially for the elderly on busy days
I was really happy with the food. I had a burger they called the logger. Thick patty of beef with egg and bacon. Fresh tomato and onion with pickles on the side. Lots of side options for lunches. Took a min to get a waitress for our order but after that things rolled along nicely all of the staff was friendly. My friend mentioned that the restaurant has been in tillamook for a very long time and even moved from its original location. That said I noticed old pictures of town. Would be cool to see pictures of the restaurant and it's history.
I had no particular expectations of this place but the dinner my wife and I received was truly sub par. I went with a simple cheese burger and fries assuming that would be a safe bet, but the burger was indifferent at best and the fries were genuinely terrible. Limp, oily, burned on the outside and nearly raw on the inside. My wife went with the chicken dinner. Chicken was dry, potato was fine, but there was no hint of a vegetable of any sort save a minestrone soup that failed to impress. The Fern is a simple family dining establishment. It would not be fair to hold it to a fine dining standard. But it failed to meet even the modest standards one might assume by looking at a menu or spotting it as one drove by.
We arrived at 1:45 p.m. on Tuesday. We didn't see the business hours posted until the way out. We stood there waiting to be seated for about 10 minutes. Multiple staff made eye contact and some apologized for not attending to our group. Most just hurried along ignoring us. One girl finally apologized after tending to other customers. Then she came and said she could seat us but would need to get our order right away because the kitchen was closing in 5 minutes. That's when we found out the hours. We left because we'd rather not risk our meal to a crew that was clearly overwhelmed and ready to end the day at 2 p.m. On the way out the door I snapped a photo of the hours and the note about the restaurant being short-staffed.
