Bidrage med feedbackLa Mezcalera is a Tijuana institution. The vibe is hip and the juke box has a curated collection of music that promises to play the perfect song for the crowd no matter what you select. And if you aren't feeling the inside bar, the back patio is massive and often has a local DJ spinning up tunes. Ok, so the vibes are why you stay, but you come for the mezcal, right? Right! They've got the best selection in town by far and, if you don't already know your favorite type of mezcal, you're sure to find it here. And when you inevitably need a little snacky-snack, they got those too! Been to TJ but haven't been to La Mezcalera? Well, then you haven't been to TJ, my friend.
Cool ambience, flavored shots for 30 pesos and reposado for 40 pesos. If you wanna get a brand name such as 400 Conejos, I believe it was 70 pesos. All reasonable prices and close to downtown. Reposado was relatively smooth for its low price. Mint and coffee were my favorites. The coffee flavor was close to Bailey's.(coffee and cajeta were extra sweet)
I loved this place. There was great music, very cool decor (cheese graters as pendant lights) and lots of mezcal. It seemed hip and laid back. We tried two mezcal flights. I'd never had a creme version before and while it wasn't my favorite, it was great to try. There was also an open area in the back with a DJ and hanging lights and an old car. It's a good place for dancing. I just loved the vibe there. During our bar crawl of TJ, this was probably my favorite place. And of course, you can snack on grasshoppers.
Friendly staff, great decor, and cheap shots? What else could have gone perfectly amazing! This place was pretty intimate which allowed us to talk to the random strangers and mingle a little. Their drinks were all good and pretty stiff in my opinion. But a shot for about 2 bucks and mix drinks for about 3-4? What could have gone wrong? Besides having too much to drink haha. They Also serve crickets here as an appetizer which was a whole new ball game for me. It was my first time and definitely won't be my last. They were crunchy, chili coated and lemon-y. I want to come back here at a later time just to see it get crazy, because I heard this was the spot to be!
Pechuga mezcal for $40 pesos? How can one say no to that? Cheap price right? Wrong! The mezcal is cut down with water! That's how they manage to keep prices low. Look out!
