Manam is a vibrant Korean place; when we arrived at around 9pm at weekend it was pretty much full. We ordered kimchi soup and bokkeumbap. Everything was good. We also love the small supplementary pickles! The staff speaks some English and was super nice. Would definitely come back again!
Kuksi, a popular cold noodle soup served in Korean restaurants of Uzbekistan. Koreans have started immigrating to Russia as early as the 19th century. In 1937, fearing that Japanese might be infiltrating the Soviets using Korean spies, Soviet leader Joseph Stalin forcibly relocated Koreans from Far East to Central Asia. Since then there are now close to half a million ethnic Koreans in Central Asia. Most of them live in Uzbekistan. Koryo Saram (Korean People) as they refer to themselves have been living in harmony with locals and other ethnicities in what is now their home. Koryo Saram introduced locals to kimchi and various other ethnic Korean dishes. However, Koryo Saram cuisine differs significantly from South Korean cuisine: they don’t make bulgogi or bibimbap. Instead, they have created their own unique dishes, such as morkovcha (spicy carrot salad) and kuksi, which is so appreciated in hot summer days of Uzbekistan. According to my friend who took me to Mannam House, the best kuksi in Tashkent is served here. O’zbekistondagi an’anaviy koreys restoranlarida dasturxonga tortiladigan kuksi. Koreyslar 19 asrdan boshlab Rossiyaga ko’chib o’ta boshlashgan. 1937 yilda Yaponiya koreyslardan xufiya sifatida foydalanishi mumkin degan havotir ostida Sovetlar rahbari Iosif Stalin koreyslarni Yaqin Sharqdan Markaziy Osiyoga majburan ko’chirgan. Shundan beri hozirgacha Markaziy Osiyoda yarim milliondan ziyod koreyslar yashaydi. Ularning aksariyati O’zbekistonda yashaydi. O’zlarini Koryo Saram (ya’ni Koreys xalqi) deb ataydigan bu xalq mahalliy aholi va turli millat vakillari bilan tinch osoyishta yashab kelishyapti. Koryo Saram mahalliylarni kimchi va boshqa an’anaviy koreys taomlari bilan tanishtirishgan. Ammo Koryo Saram taomlari Janubiy Koreya taomlaridan farq qiladi: ular bulgogi va bibimbap tayyorlashmaydi. Buni o’rniga o’zlarining mahalliy taomlarini o’ylab topishgan. Masalan, morkovcha va kuksi. O’zbekiston chillasida ayniqsa kuksi zo’r ketadi.
