However, they can be found at Hip Pun vegan bakery every Wednesday from 11am to about 6pm, where you can try their vegan takoyaki. They also visit various food markets, with their schedule available on their Facebook page. Takoyaki is a traditional Japanese snack usually made with diced octopus, but Mushyaki offers a vegan version using mushrooms instead. The takoyaki is served with mayonnaise and other toppings, and we recommend trying the mixed bowl to sample all the different flavors.
I visited Bao Gu Shao in June 2019 after finding it on Happycow. This roadside stall specializes in savory Japanese takoyaki balls, each filled with a piece of mushroom. We sampled the two flavors available that day and found them both delicious and served hot.
I first heard about Mushyaki at the Vegan Frenzy event in Taipei in December 2018. The organizers urged attendees to bring their own dishware, utensils, and drinkware to reduce waste. When I visited their location in Shilin Night Market, I brought a glass container as suggested. The staff was pleased to see this and informed me that the owner rewards customers who bring their own containers by giving them an extra mushyaki for free. I ended up ordering two sets of mixed mushyaki, each with seven balls instead of the usual six, for NT$70 each. The food was just as delicious as I remembered from the festival, and you can choose from different vegan mayo flavors for the seventh ball. Bringing your own chopsticks is a great way to reduce waste further by avoiding using a bamboo skewer.
A very nice vegan snack! Ok get the mix flavours of 6 balls for 70 dollars
