Ellen's Bakery Cafe - Sylvan Lake

One of the very best breakfasts in the greater Detroit metropolitan area. Superb.

Arrived after 3pm for a snack sooooo many wonderful choices! For our first visit to Ellen 's Bakery Cafe we had bumpy chocolate and golden buttercream (w/sprinkles) cupcakes to share. Each outstanding! The buttercream used on both was the most perfect creamy, sweet blend. And the deep chocolate coating covering the buttercream bump was our favorite. Both cupcakes were Best in Class! We understand that next week the Cafe will be featuring a fresh asparagus salad with a poached egg atop so we 'll be back earlier in the day, and maybe for breakfast, too! Next visit, when we are heading straight home right afterwards, we 'll be taking Ellen 's made in store butter pecan ice cream with us to try. I understand it 's amazing!

Lovely atmosphere and though they were so busy and only had one lady working the bakery side she did a great job multitasking answering the phone and taking care of the customers while I was waiting in line! Was able to check out the selection! Ended up getting the 2 new York Cheesecake and a few of the bites. They looked beautifully made but honestly didn't taste too great. Pretty firm and hardened like had sat out for a few days, the breading which is my favorite was separated from the cake itself and the strawberry on top was no good. Tasted old, Threw the second one out. The bites tasted a little fresher and not so hard as the rounds. I still think the place was great atmosphere and friendly service. I still plan to come back and at try a future date to try the food instead of the bakery

When I start my day at Ellen's, it certain to be a good one.I rarely stray from the duck hash (where else can you get that? and it's one of the few places in the US I'll order an espresso.Also, my kids love the ice cream.Be prepared to wait on Sunday morning.

Awesome Key Lime Pie! Breakfast omelets and sceambles were very good too.
