Cara & Co - Sydney

We recently visited this restaurant for lunch and found the staff friendly and accommodating. The food tasted delicious (we had the lamb) and the ambience was nice. In the noisy shopping centre Cara & Co is a quiet haven for great food.

We went with another couple and a voucher offer we found in the SMH, and with it discovered a little hidden gem that we would most certainly have missed otherwise. We had the most fabulous waiter and while the welcome drink wasn't to everyone's taste...More

Rotten experience. Every dish on the degustation was a custard, mousse or soup slop. Except the 5cm cube of dry lamb. Food was over or under seasoned. Tiny portions. Not even a salad or side veg in sight. Left feeling starving!Service was extremely slow. Waited ages in between courses and took over three hours to eat our tiny bite size "mousse" dishes. Poor form on their part - every second dish/drink we had, either my partner or I were in the bathroom (a good 100m walk away) so we ended up not knowing what we were eating half the time. Even cafes know that you only serve when all parties are present! Very unprofessional. Overall, tiny weird food (if you consider mouthfuls of custard food), slow unprofessional service, unexciting wines, inconveniently located restroom. For over $300, we expected more. The cheese sandwich we had when got home was the only real food we ate all night.

We used a Travel zoo voucher but they didn't treat us any differently to normal customers. Food was amazing, really delicious and creative- we had the degustation menu so luckily we could try many dishes- everything was yummy. Staff are knowledgeable- service was a little slow, especially when trying to get a drink. But overall it was a wonderful night. (The mini hand towels that look likes mints but 'grew' when the waiter poured warm water on them were a big hit)

My husband and I went to this restaurant last year around October 2012 and had a degustation using an online voucher. We were quite surprised about the creativity of the dishes and how different the place was. However this year, we went again on the same deal and was extremely disappointed.Service was amazing in the beginning but towards the last three courses, took over 20 minutes between each course. The tomato soup wasn't nice at all (tasted like they use soda water in it).Then it became frustrating and did nothing for my hunger when I saw how small the main (lamb) was. It was pretty much equivalent in size to a slice of spam cut into three triangles.Saw a couple having the a la carte and the mains looked adequate there, so might be worth trying that. However if I was a full-paying customer who got the degustation, I would feel truly cheated. Don't know if I'd return.
