Bidrage med feedbackI don't have a great impression of Chat Thai. None of my experiences have been that great. I knew Assamm was a sister restaurant to the popular chain so I had a wary approach. Assamm is a busy place and at peak time there is a line and the staff will hurry you. Apart from that they were quite helpful and efficient. I ordered the pad thai and found it was a decent serving so was satisfied. Tasted great too. Would happily go back but probably just when lunch starts because any wait is off putting.
Came here for dinner on a quiet weeknight. Ordered a few dishes but the Crispy Pork belly was way too overcooked. The skin/fatty parts were hard but crispy, but the meat (especially the lean parts) were extremely tough. Had some kind of coating around the meat as well, re-fried perhaps? We asked them to check with the chef and was told that's how they cook it.... Definitely not the same as other Thai restaurants I've been to but each to their own...No offer to recook or refund either. Service and pricing is reasonable otherwise.
Assamm is my regular go to Thai restaurant. Cheap and delicious food, Assamm has failed me only once so far. Seeing that I go there so regularly, I know which dishes to choose now. I would recommend this place to lovers of Thai who want quick and delicious food.
Popped in for lunch today after I lazily caught the lift from the top of the QVB to the basement. First time I have used a lift in over 7 years when stairs are available. Anyway! I got some chicken satay sticks which were delicious, along with the roast duck stir fry with holy basil and chilli. For the two satay sticks, stir fry and rice it came to $24 and I thought that was really well priced. The stir fry was generous I thought.
After finding out that this place was the sister restaurant of Chat Thai, I had really high expectations for the food. We came for lunch at midday and seemed to beat the crowd. The set up is definitely not as crowded as Chat Thai. We had the rice paper rolls (really fresh), satay chicken (authentic satay sauce), crispy pork belly in red curry sauce (so crisp, my fav dish out of the lot), crispy duck with green veggies (nothing special), grilled prawn (they were huge and juicy!), sticky rice and mango (yum) and the tapioca water chestnut coconut dessert (too icy for my liking). We were in a food coma after all the food but so worth all the calories. Will definitely return next time we are in Sydney.
