Stopped by for lunch after visiting the WASP museum. Started with fried mushrooms, then had supreme nachos and fried cheesecake to end. Good flavors, quick and friendly service. Right off I-20, so good for locals and anybody driving through.
Like my old hometown country 'cowboy ' cafe.... family, friends and dates.....Heart warming to walk in and sit down amongst like minded folks...
We stopped in while traveling based on positive reviews, at around 4 PM on a Thursday, for an early dinner.Based on the food, I would love to give this place 5 stars. The chicken fried steak was amongst the best we have had in Texas. Super crispy breading that adhered perfectly to the meat, well-seasoned, and the steak was very tender. The portion was also generous and the price was very fair. The sides were also very good... between us we got the mashed potatoes, green beans, pinto beans and Cole slaw and all were very good. The food came out fast and the atmosphere was clean and pleasant. We unfortunately had to knock off a star for the service. It all started out great. We were sat promptly and a food runner came right away asking out drink order, with an enthusiastic smile. When the server arrived to take our order, she was less enthusiastic and friendly, but we weren 't concerned at that point. It took a while for our iced tea to arrive but eventually the server brought it and shortly after, our food arrived. The server did check back promptly to see if our food was okay. We let her know it was great. After that, things went downhill. She did walk by our table one more time to check on us, but then disappeared. We could hear her chatting with other staff on the other side of the dividing wall near the kitchen entrance as we waited and waited after finishing our food. We asked each other if we wanted to look at a dessert menu, and I remembered seeing something on the regular menu reminding guests to try our desserts. We decided we would like dessert and waited some more for our server to return. When she finally did, she pulled out our ticket, slapped it on the table and said thanks for coming and walked away. No offer of a dessert menu. No friendly chit chat. We immediately felt like she wanted us to leave ASAP. The place was mainly empty as it was early for dinner and it seemed to be well-staffed so it was not a situation of needing to turn the table. We just didn 't feel that welcome the whole time. So we got up, paid the check and left. It 's a real shame because the food was so good that we definitely would have made it a point to stop every time we travel that route. We probably will come again when we are in the area and especially craving a good chicken fried steak, but it could have been a much better experience with better service. I would chalk it up to the server having a bad day, except many other reviews cite similar experiences.Bottom Line: Food is great. Service is meh. Could be a 5 star joint.
Outstanding service, Outstanding food. Great place to eat
