Chez Matis Traiteur - Sutton

You won't find a better millefeuille anywhere else. The atmosphere here is charming and they offer a variety of other dishes that are definitely worth a try. I'll be back to try their home smoked salmon next time.

We just wanted something to eat at our rental chalet on a 38C day. Somehow we were persuaded to take boeuf bourguignon, which didn't seem appropriate to the heat and a salmon pie. The boeuf bourguignon was the best I have ever had anywhere and the salmon pie was excellent. We suspect you can't go wrong here not cheap but unbelievably good.

We were leaving Sutton when we noticed the sign for this place. What a delightful surprise! The lamb with mushrooms cooked in red wine was divine. The Baba au rhum was over the top. It gets very hot inside during the summer, one must eat outside which is perfect for the scenery. I can't wait to have them cater an event for me sometime soon... Bonne degustation!

The pastries and snacks were good, but we were not impressed with the management's attitude. Although we had a positive catering experience in the past, we will not be coming back due to the unwelcoming reception.

I stumbled upon Chez Matis by accident last weekend while my ski club was staying at a nearby inn. After cutting my ski trip short due to the weather, a few friends and I ended up in town and noticed a sign for Tarte au Canard in the window. Intrigued by the idea of trying duck pie for the first time, we decided to stop in and check it out. Although it's not a typical restaurant, they do have one table for dining in - primarily, it's set up for take-out orders. The selection they offer is impressive. We ended up buying two duck pies, some millefeuilles pastries (a classic French pastry with layers of puff pastry and cream filling), and various condiments. The pastries were delicious that night, but I couldn't wait to try the pie until I got back home. The texture was more like a tourtiere, with ground meat, but the taste was exceptional and the pastry crust was light and crispy - a true work of art. The owner was friendly and took the time to answer our questions. The place seemed to be thriving, with a constant flow of customers coming in and out during our mid-afternoon visit. Visiting this shop will be a new annual tradition for us.
