Bidrage med feedbackMany of the dishes at Maya Masala, also known as Maya Vegetarian, contain milk. However, the printed menu does indicate which vegan options are available by marking them with a "W." This can be confusing as some items also come with yogurt. Additionally, there is a handwritten list at the counter that staff can refer to in order to inform customers about which curries are milk-free on that particular day. If requested, a vegan version of the thali can be prepared, which costs $16.90 (as of December 2016) and may require omitting one or two curries for the full four-curry option. The roti is made without dairy, and instead of the traditional raita, you can choose one of two very sweet vegan desserts available at the counter. A good vegan choice is the masala dosa, priced at $12.90 in December 2016. While prices have increased recently, making it less of a bargain than it used to be, I still look forward to enjoying the thali when I am in the area. Maya holds an alcohol license, but I would advise fellow vegans to be cautious with their wine choices. Oddly, for a restaurant that doesn’t serve eggs, Maya offers some ordinary wines that, according to their back labels, are made with milk or dairy, and may contain traces. It's unfortunate, as Maya could have chosen to support wineries that emphasize being vegan-friendly. This review has been updated as of November 2021.
No great selection of vegan options compared to those that contain milk, but workers are aware of what can be made vegan. prices are appropriate for the portion sizes. limited vegan deserts from my experience
The menu clearly marks the vegan options. We ordered the thali plates, which included five different curries, rice, and broth. Priced at 18.90 each, it was a great value.
I really love this place and my wife and I eat there regularly. As of May 2018, all the vegan options are now clearly marked (although probably good to check the board is not 100% accurate). Pretty consistent is the quality. They now accept EFTPOS.
I've been eating here for years off on. The place was renovated a few years back is much nicer now. Big plasma screens on the walls playing Indian movies music videos. Volume is not too loud. Very popular with Indian families taxi drivers. Food is fast cheap. I love the samosas. Also I like the Wed special Aloo Matar. Breads are also good. (2008 review) 2017 update I ate here a lot in 2017 and 2016. Really like the daily dal specials, e.g. channa dal, makhani, maharani. Also the masala dosa. They did another renovation early 2017, made it a bit classier, got rid of the big TV screens and also the prices went up about 15% I think. Still, it's very good authentic Indian food.
