Bidrage med feedbackI recently traveled here in Melbourne for tour and to visit my future sis-in-law so she brought me here to satisfy our craving for Pinoy food--good choice! The food is like your typical carinderia/canteen variety--lots of choices to choose from(too bad Binagoongan was not on the list that time). You can have combo(combination choice if dishes typical in Philippine canteens) meals plus the drink--roughly equal to regular meals in the other small restaurants near CBD. They also have a small grocery with of course, Pinoy products! The best part of going to this not-so-near and definitely off the central area place is that it's Pinoy food with the typical excellent Pinoy hospitality! Thanks for the warm assistance in taking our photos(don't know her name--cashier/waitress). Cliche as it may sound, good service is the key for business in food and hospitality!
The setup is a typical Philippine takeaway fast food restaurant, with ready to eat meals on hot plates and deserts/sweets on the side.We frequent here for Philippine favourites like the kare-kare (stewed oxtail in peanut sauce), nilagang baka (stewed beef), sinampalukang manok (chicken in tamarind soup base) and pork barbeque. They also have menu items. $10.50 for a cup of rice and a cup for each two viands and a can of softdrinks seem to be a plenty; sometimes with an extra rice i share the two cups of viand to my wife or with our three kids.Halu halo which is a mixture of preserved fruits, red beans, yam paste and custard with milk and crushed ice is popular and as expected is sweet. The serving can be shared by two adults.Overall the place is clean. Does not have the wow factor but good enough for Philippine taste buds.
This restaurant is actually a cafe with seating for about 18 plus an attached grocery store. The staff were friendly and helpful.I had pork on skewers; others in my group had beef tapa, lumpia (large spring rolls that were not served hot - unusual and not to my taste as I don't like cold lumpia!) and another meat dish.Filipino drinks were available: I enjoyed a Del Monte Four Seasons drink along with a mango juice. The cost: A$40 for four - very reasonable. Not Michelin star rated but a simple place that had a constant stream of patrons even though it closes ridiculously early at 2100 hours.
We really loved the food! Very carinderia style! I was with my husband and we ordered a combo meal each (it has rice and two dishes or "ulam" as we call it) and shared for us to have a taste. We had the sisig, pakbet, lechon paksiw and beef pares. The lady who served us was very nice. Not much customer interaction as you order at the counter and they will serve you the food. Very much like the side street restaurants in the Philippines! 10 out of 10 will come back again! The pakbet was the best!
This restaurant use cheap cuts of meat like pig heads, hocks. Internal organs,Very high cholesterol food. Also re heat left over food. I bought take away from this restaurant twice had to throw them away as taste was awful. Staff are good though...But food won't recommend .
