Bidrage med feedbackIts sad to see one of my favorite restaurants drop so dramatically. In the 15 years I 've been their customer, English has always been a challenge, but that 's what gave Pico de Gallo its charm. It wasn 't a riverwalk tourist trap. It was an authentic mex-mex (not tex-mex) place. This week I attempted to arrange a party of 20+ guests, and at the last minute was informed that a 'deposit ' of $3 per guest would be required. OK, no big deal. But they weren 't asking for a deposit to hold the reservation, they were asking for a surcharge of $3 per guest just for the privilege of showing up. This seemed very odd, so I asked for the general manager to call me. My call was not returned. I called the next day, and my call was not returned. Ditto the third day. Lacking all confidence, I did not hold the party, but did stop by the restaurant. Unlike in years gone by, the dining room was empty. I had a meal. It was OK, but far from the quality I 've enjoyed in the past. I ordered a drink, and can safely say that it was one of the shortest, stingiest drinks I 've ever had. When I ordered another shot, and asked that it be poured more fully, it was equally stingy. I switched to beer. I guess I was in denial, and went for dinner when I shouldn 't have, and ordered a second drink when the first was short. As in the past, the mariachis were present, but now just standing around and playing nothing. It 's sad to see this institution die of neglect and indifference.
My husband was stationed at Lackland A.F. Base and we ate many times at Pico De Gallo. It was so much fun and the food was delicious. Music and service were great. We moved back to our home state in Wisconsin, my husband is now deceased. But one of my fondest memories of San Antonio is Pico De Gallo. I hope to visit again soon.
The food was absolutely delicious, as were the margaritas. The servers were all extremely friendly and helpful. I read in the local phone book that it was a local favorite, so we gave the restaurant a try. It looks a bit small from the outside, but once you get in, the space is large and well laid out. We were seated right away on a busy Saturday night, and our server came right away for our drinks order. The food we ordered was hot and fresh and FAST! I would recommend this to anyone wanting great authentic Mexican food in San Antonio without having an enormous bill at the end of your meal.
Alamo Area Hospitality Association hosted an event at Pico de Gallo and they did a FABULOUS job! The upstairs private space was spacious and set up perfectly for us upon arrival. We were greeted by their team and their Director of Training, Mario Moreno. He shared his story with our group and talked about the restaurants, his personal story, and the American dream. He was very engaging with our group and well respected by his team and peers. Miguel and Laura served us piping hot, delicious food with smiles on their faces. Bravo for a job well done!
It's good but for Mexican food I expected much more, they have very good, fast customer service.
