Bidrage med feedbackA welcome addition to the Stockton food scene. Food from N'awlins is always welcome, and I wonder why there isn't more of it around since we're on a Delta and all. Okay, maybe I'm being a bit too optimistic. Basically, you buy cold food out of the refrigerator case. You don't eat there, and the only thing I think they serve right there are snow cones. BUT, the food in the case is pretty good. Not great, but good. The Good Seafood gumbo, crawfish etouffee, red beans, and jambalaya. (I'm being a bit charitable to the jambalaya because it is more of the side dish variety, rather than the main course variety. It's got decent flavor, but nondescript sausage. Main course versions usually have much more goodies. They all have the good NOLA seasoning with enough heat to tickle your taste buds, but not enough to overwhelm the other flavors. She even has a lima bean and ham stew that has me questioning why so many people don't like lima beans...it's creamy goodness, like a nice bean/split pea soup. The Bad Don't buy the crawfish pie, ugh! It had a pretty awful salty, fishy flavor...a big miss! The Ugly The shrimp salad. Let's be clear, it was tasty. Like a nice shrimp dip you'd serve at a cocktail party. But, it should have been so much more. A picture here shows her doing a shrimp boil with full size, NOLA shrimp (supposedly . But instead of chopping them up into big chunks, a la lobster roll salad style, she minces them into tiny bits. It's hard to describe that as anything but a FOOD CRIME! Tasty, but nevertheless, a food crime! Anyway, I hope she keeps expanding her offerings and NOLA supplies. Although, I think I'll skip the Muffuletta sandwich she makes with imported bread and olive salad. I've had the real deal from Central Grocery, and they aren't really any better than you can get at Gian's or Genova Bakery. Anyway, give it a try, and maybe someday she'll be able to turn it into a place that actually serves hot food.
Peggy is the real deal. I had the pleasure to try the jambalaya and it was delicious. There are sweets and SNOWBALLS! If you love New Orleans type food give her a try! Shop local and help keep businesses open in Stockton.
Good service. The lemon and chocolate coma cake were excellent and very well balanced. I have had coma cake before that was overwhelming not the case here. I sampled Jambalaya and that was also flavorful something I will pick next time. I went in this time for thing sweet.
Popped into this place on my way home from work literally 30 minutes ago. I grabbed a little bit of everything to try. Still making my way thorough it, but I had to come post this review because the crawfish pie is. so. damn. good. Peggy is the absolute sweetest and her food is definitely made with love. I can't wait to give her more of my money!
My husband, daughter, and I visited today to try their Snowball icees after my husband had seen someone enjoying one and decided he had to have it too. As soon as we walked in, we were warmly greeted by the sweetest lady, whose name I regret not asking. She offered us samples of the Jambalaya and their crackers, and let me tell you—they did NOT disappoint. They were absolutely delicious! Our Snowballs were fantastic as well. My daughter, who is two years old, enjoyed an alligator-shaped cookie that the lady kindly gifted her and she loved it. What excited her even more was the New Orleans-style beads that the lady also gave her. Overall, this place is just fantastic! From the friendly staff to the amazing food and desserts, everything was wonderful. After tasting the Jambalaya, we knew we had to buy some to take home. We initially came in for Snowballs but left with food and dessert, which was such a nice surprise. We can't wait to come back and try more of their offerings. We highly recommend it!
