Village Pantry -  Spencerville,

This country store is charming and the Pizza is very tasty, without too much salt and sugar added like some places do. The prices are fair and worth the visit for a good Pizza or pastry treats.

On a trip between Ottawa and Kingston, we stopped in Spencerville (I am ashamed to say I had not previously noticed the sign on the 416) for gas at lunch hour, and my wife spotted the Village Pantry from the gas station. I was a bit surprised at how long she was inside, until I realized that there was a steady stream of people going in and coming out, including one man who opened the trunk of his car and began depositing a stream of huge plates of sandwiches in it, with the help of shop staff. When my wife returned with our tuna sandwich and chocolate milk, I could see what the attraction was: the sandwich was thick and juicy, with a delicious filling of tuna, mayonnaise, herbs, and lettuce. What a treat! But do be prepared to wait if you turn up at lunch hour, because this is (justifiably) one popular spot!

We discovered the Village Pantry General Store courtesy of a spotlight on CTV a few years back. My family and I make it a tradition to do day trips just to buy the cinnamon buns and have their pizza by the mill. The cream-cheese based icing tops a very soft, massive bun. You wouldn't think you could eat it all, but you do!!! They are addictive! Tip for those travelling just for the buns, reserve a batch or get there early in the morning to guarantee your spot amongst the cinnamon bun foodies. One other important point is that it is not a restaurant....it is an old fashioned, friendly general store.

This wonderful old store is the village hub serving pizza by the slice, hot soups and sandwiches as well as ice cream and they make the best cinammon buns ever. They also carry groceries, newspapers and St. Albert's Cheese.
