Los Altos Restaurant replaced the previous owner about 2 years ago. This place is conveniently located on North Los Altos in Spanish Springs (near Walmart). They have too many menu options (that's a good thing)! Staff is great. Love the food. BE CAREFUL ON SIDE ORDERS! SOME ARE HIGHER THAN THE ENTREES!
After several more times at this restaurant, I've decided never to return because of the owner's attitude. He thinks he knows everything about running a restaurant and he will not accept any suggestions or constructive criticisms. The first time I ever met him was at his old restaurant in Mogul (called Abel's). I wanted a single taco to tide me over during a class. I had neither the appetite nor the time for more than one taco. He refused to let me order just one taco and insisted that I order at least two, even though one taco was an option on the menu. I argued with him until I realized that my choices were to either order two tacos and eat one, or go to class hungry. I ordered two tacos, ate one, and took the other one in a to-go box. It wasn't as good later on. When Water Springs opened, I was very enthusiastic about it because we need more restaurants in Spanish Springs. My husband and I ate there several times and everything seemed fine at first. I was willing to forgive his previous transgression and let him make a fresh start. As we became regulars at Water Springs, however, things changed. He acted like he could ignore us and we wouldn't mind because we were regulars. We waited 45 minutes for our drinks one time and we were very aware that a mother-daughter team at the next table had also been waiting 45 minutes for their drinks. They were complaining loudly and had got up to leave, when the owner told them to sit down. He said that they hadn't been waiting very long, that they had nothing to be upset about, and he brought their drinks right away. When I pointed out that we had also been waiting 45 minutes for our drinks, he basically told me that I was lying. In addition, my husband's burger was almost always make incorrectly. My husband hates cheese and would never order a burger with cheese, but nine times out of ten, his burger would arrive with cheese at Water Springs and the owner would accuse him of having asked for cheese. The food was generally fine when it was made right and the location is perfect for us. The owner is the problem and we are done with that place.
Uncomfortably quiet and food is just ok. I wanted to love this place. I tried to tell the owner and he was not welcoming to any of my suggestions. Bragged about having owned 5 restaurants yet he acted like he didn't know what he was doing. He had 4 total tables yet he sat us all practically on top of each other and it's a huge room! Also menus said Del Real but the sign said Water Springs. Hmmm. Water Springs must have went out of business and he is now operating under a new name.
Great food, really nice host. Every other Mexican place in Spanish Springs had a 45 minute wait. We walked in and were seated immediately.
