Bidrage med feedbackWe happened upon Arthur and his stand in the seemingly vegan black-hole of Putney on Saturday. This super-friendly guy will cook up fresh pupusas in front of your eyes, served with home-made sauerkraut (and fried plantain for a little extra money). What are pupusas? They’re a street food staple from El Salvador made with cornmeal stuffed with a variety of flavours. We tried them filled with black beans and red beans with courgette. Both were delish!! The menu board helpfully has all the allergens listed for each option, the menu is 98% vegetarian with a good number of vegan options! Only one meat option hence the 4 stars. Arthur is really friendly, so why not go down there on a Saturday for a chat and some yummy homemade pupusas? We’ll be back!

I came across a post on Instagram mentioning where they were that day, so I decided to check out the restaurant. Even though it was closed, I was intrigued by the pupusas and decided to try the veggie options. They were delicious, especially with the side salad and fresh sauce. The atmosphere at the stall was also great. I asked Arthur if they would be in Putney on Saturday, but it turns out the opening times on HappyCow were incorrect. He advised me to check their Instagram for their actual schedule.
I went out of my way to try this restaurant because it sounded unique. Despite not having a phone number, their website indicated they were open from 10-3 on Saturdays at St. Mary's Church in Putney. However, when I arrived at 10:30, they were not there and the rest of the market was operating as usual. I waited until 11:00 and even tried contacting them through their website with no response. I can only conclude that they are unreliable. If you happen to be in the area, you can give them a try (as another reviewer mentioned that the food is good), but I wouldn't recommend going out of your way to visit them.
I ordered the vegan option, which was filled with black beans. I decided to get the meal deal, which also included fried plantain and a red slaw, which they called Sauerkraut. It was delicious and a unique combination. I gave it three stars because there was only one vegan option available and the price seemed a bit high, possibly due to being located at Victoria Cardinal Place Market.
