I stayed at Ye Olde Fighting Cocks for five days and was very impressed with my experience. Although I had booked a single room, I was offered a double room at a great rate. The room was clean, tidy, and had a very comfortable bed with a modern en-suite bathroom. The meals, including breakfast and dinner, were of high quality and I especially enjoyed the first grade cask ale. The staff was friendly and engaging, even during busy periods. I highly recommend Ye Olde Fighting Cocks to anyone looking for a relaxing stay in the Arnside and Silverdale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
Our room was located on the top floor, and the hallway reeked of urine and ammonia, which appeared to be coming from the owner's apartment. This unpleasant smell could also be detected in our room. Upon bringing this issue up on our first night, we were told that it might be due to a wild cat and that the carpets would be cleaned the next morning. However, they were not cleaned, and we had to endure the smell until we checked out. We had made a reservation at the restaurant, Surf & Turf, ordering one steak cooked medium and the other medium rare. Unfortunately, both steaks were severely overcooked. After expressing our dissatisfaction, they replaced the steaks, but they were still not cooked to our liking. Furthermore, I found a long curly hair wrapped around one of the steaks, which was a major turn-off. As a result, we decided to skip breakfast and went to bed hungry. The following morning, we discovered that one of the towels provided was heavily stained. The room was not cleaned, the trash bin was not emptied, and we were not given fresh towels on our second day until I requested them. Despite Arnside being a charming little town, we will not be returning to this accommodation in the future.
Booked a table in advance which was reserved on arrival for me and my dog Prompt bar service with a nice selection of ales Got chatting to Tony who recommended the Sunday Roast and boy it was fantastic, came piping hot with plenty of beef and a great selection of roasties, mash, boiled complemented with carrots ,parsnips and cabbage plus the obligatory Yorkshire all for £13.95 Highly recommended
Came here as had a wedding nearby and wanted to grab a dinner after a long drive. Had booked (definitely do this) and was glad we had, as they were fully booked for the night please do note that they don't overcrowd their restaurant, or overload their chef, so they're not always able to accommodate walk ins. Dinner was calamari (some of the best we've had this side of the Channel), lasagna, steak and ale pie, and sorbet/ice cream. I have literally no complaints about any of it all was exactly what I'd hope from a good English pub. Meanwhile the staff were attentive and friendly without being invasive, absolutely lovely.
