Ernie's Coffe Shop - South Lake Tahoe

We finally felt like we had breakfast! Everything we ordered was on point and fresh. The best breakfast in Tahoe.

All the time came here before I got vegan. Very happy such a classic café changes menu there to options for people who do not eat the stereo typical American breakfast of eggs, bacon and milk. Updated by previous review on 2022-07-24

If I had gone to this restaurant first, I would have come here for breakfast every day. Her tofu frame is on its own amazing (with avocado, peppers, fresh tomatoes and vegan cheese. And bright yellow, provided turmeric, tofu) and light years better than Driftwoods veggie scramble. Her vegan banana French toast was also delicious. Super nice staff, much less touristy than other places, and you can say the vegan options were not an afterthought. It is also next to the bear Den. Maybe after breakfast we passed to buy a chain saw carving of a bear and we are very happy with our outing.

Ernie's has updated their vegan options with a tofu scram with vegan cheese on a plate or in a burrito. Also avocado toast and additional vegetable milk options - soy, almond or oat milk. You can still Grandma Jeans Granola and oatmeal of course. Or one of my favorites is the Extreme Home Fries vegan made with spinach, jalapeño, broccoli and salsa. Look at it!

We were happy to find vegan options in the area, especially for early breakfast. Coffee : the coffee was quite bitter and not our favorite. They did have soy milk available, but we had to request it. Vegan Banana French Toast : When we ordered they asked if we wanted agave, apple sauce or peanut butter. This seems to be in leiu of maple syrup which is really weird considering maple syrup is vegan. We asked if we could have maple syrup and a staff member said they'd try and include it. We opted for apple sauce. We had to ask twice for the maple syrup and they were really stingy about it. The French toast itself was just okay. It was dry but had an okay flavor. The apple sauce and maple syrup helped a lot. They seemed quite busy but the staff was helpful and our food was ready quickly. We found the price to be a bit high, especially for breakfast.
