Bidrage med feedbackWe dined at this restaurant on both nights during our stay at Trump Turnberry and the food was absolutely excellent. The flavors were delightful, and on the second night, the chef was able to adjust the risotto to my liking, which was greatly appreciated. The only downside with the food was that my soup on the first evening was lukewarm. However, we encountered some issues with the service. On the first night, we did not receive any bread and butter, unlike other tables. There was also a significant wait of around 30 minutes between each course, although it did not bother us as we enjoy a leisurely meal. Some people may find this waiting time to be an issue. When we requested our bill on the first night, we did not receive it even after waiting for 10 minutes, so we decided to leave as we knew it would be charged to our room. We simply wanted to review the bill. On the second night, we did receive bread, but during the main courses, when one person at our table was still eating, we were asked if we had finished. We informed the waitress that there was still one person eating, but she proceeded to clear the two empty plates, leaving one person eating. As someone who works in hospitality, this is unacceptable and should not occur in a restaurant of this caliber. Despite these issues, we still paid the service charge each evening as the food was exceptional, and most of the staff were very good. We have never felt the need to have the service charge removed from our bills when dining out.
I recently had a very disappointing experience at a high-end restaurant. The food was unsatisfactory and the service was practically nonexistent. We waited over 30 minutes between each course, despite there being only five other tables in the restaurant. The wine pairings were also poorly timed, arriving five minutes after each dish and causing the food to go cold. It seemed as though the waitstaff were bringing the bottles randomly, resulting in a terrible pairing overall. I will not be returning to this restaurant.
We dined at this restaurant two nights in a row and both experiences were excellent. The staff truly goes out of their way to ensure your satisfaction with each meal. The sommelier has fascinating stories to share and will recommend the perfect wine for you. On our second visit, when I couldn't find anything on the menu that suited my appetite, they gladly prepared something off-menu for me. The service was truly exceptional.
The 1906 Restaurant was the highlight of our stay. We thought that the wait staff went above and beyond the call of duty to make each meal a delight. We especially liked our visits with sommelier each night during dinner.
We stayed at Turnberry quite a few years ago and loved the restaurant, having experienced both the restaurant and the “chefs table” at the time it was wonderful. Not so this time. The restaurant has sadly gone quite a way downhill since then. This was certainly not fine dining. They served both of us a gluten free roll, which was still wrapped in the blue “Genius” wrapper, even though only my partner is intolerant to gluten. They didn’t serve my partner any butter only after we asked twice. I’m dairy allergic and they apologised for not having and dairy free spread although I did ask for olive oil and balsamic which they eventually served. The server for the bread was very young and inexperienced and clearly didn’t know what to offer when I couldn’t have butter. My main course was Vegan and almost inedible. The mushrooms were tasteless and oozing water as if they had been dried and reconstituted I left most of it. My partner was served with the potato croquette in the soup even though we had been told this was not suitable for someone with a gluten intolerance. The main course was much more difficult to sort out than it should have been. In most fine dining restaurants we have eaten in (Sat Bains, La Gavroche, Le Manoir etc the serving staff let you choose the course and in most cases can adapt for allergies. However, the young server came out with a notebook listing what we could have and not have. As the main option for me was steak and I had eaten this twice previously this week I asked if the halibut could be made with no sauce. (Incidentally some poorer quality restaurants seem to only be able to offer steak to people with allergies. Eventually the server confirmed this was possible and my partner settled on the venison. Both arrived and were a real disappointment. The server never asked how the venison should be cooked for my partner and it arrived over cooked and tough. The halibut was similar, way over cooked and dry. The wine list however, was good but the wine waiter was not a sommelier and he was very inexperienced and over filled our glasses which is not good for a nice red wine. We were originally booked in for another evening but will certainly cancel. It was a very expensive evening and not very enjoyable. Do yourself a favour and don’t go. The Turnberry staff and chef should also do themselves a favour and book into Andrew Fairley restaurant at Gleneagles to see how it should be done. In addition to all the above the restaurant clearly has a problem with flies with many of them in the dining room.
