Bidrage med feedbackSouth African food in Singapore, but honestly we can’t tell if it’s authentic since we haven’t tried it before. Ambience, service and food presentation are great, but it comes at a steep price. Perhaps worth a visit to just get a taste of a new cuisine. Most food items are spicy, but you can request for spiciness to be removed put aside.
Had the goat curry and chicken curry, the portions were much bigger than they looked! Chicken curry was tastier. Goat curry was tender but the taste was ok only. Their rice was a bit dry. Their drinks are very nice and also very filling. I would come back to try their brunch menu next time.
Late review from 21st May 2022. Decided to try Africa cuisine because I 'm so curious as I read some reviews that African cuisine tasted similarly to Indian cuisine. Kafe Utu did not disappoint me at all, it 's so good! I had ordered Pulled Pork Breakfast $26) and truly enjoyed all the wonderful combination of flavours that this dish has. Likewise, my friend had ordered the Goat Curry with Coconut Rice $29) which she had enjoyed delightfully. But those who can 't spicy food should avoid this curry as it has a fierce spicy punch. Oh! Their long black $4.50) that I ordered was wickedly strong, I love it! My friend tried Bidibado 'Abracadabra ' $7) and she liked it too. I have to try it one day and give an updated review.
Read up about it’s African themed design and the Cafe doesn’t disappoint! From entrance all the way to their toilets, the design is all in theme and has the homely and chic African feel to it. Ordered the goat curry which was thick and flavourful, paired with their fragrant rice imbued with coconut milk. Their buttermilk fried chicken is rich in buttermilk and their sauces are a great pairing! Pulled pork breakfast is slightly on the salty side but there’s a good variety to the dishes on the plate. Would highly recommend their filter coffee, which offers a wide selection to choose from and it’s aesthetically pleasant and taste great! Signature chocolate has a spicy taste which might not be what we’re used to for chocolate drink but it gets better after every taste. To top off the experience is their wonderful service by their staff, who was extremely friendly and patient to explain what the unfamiliar African food are and the different filter coffee tastes. Price is on the slightly higher side but their food, service and ambience more than made up for it! Would highly recommend for a brunch or relaxing meal for a change of pace!
Interesting African Cafe to visit with very spicy food. Service and ambiance was really good and adds to the whole dining experience. We loved the goat curry (no smelly lamb for those who don 't take lamb) and the selection of coffee. I only which they gave more coconut rice with their curries. The buttermilk chicken is another must try dish that comes with dips of 3 levels of spiciness. The pulled pork was unfortunately too salty for our liking. I would also recommend trying the 'Badass chocolate ' for those who like spicy foods. Truly an unique aftertaste.
