Bidrage med feedbackMy son Jonathan told us he tried this place with his girlfriend a few weeks back, and it was Good! Yesterday we all drove down for dinner there. Interesting that the place is called Imakatsu, sorta has a 'I 'm-a-katsu ' ring to it. Jokes and puns aside, we weren 't disappointed. The service was immaculately good, and the staff were quick with their recommendations for dinner meals, and spot on too! The dons my wife, mum and son took were brimming with flavour (the sauce), and everything inside is tender and juicy. There was a sweet, tangy, salty flavour to the broth, and the chicken cutlets melt in the mouth! Mum 's Unagi was grilled perfectly, and seasoned likewise. Perfect except the only gripe was 1 piece in her bowl had quite a few fine bones and a little tricky to down for dinner. My Katsu was proof that this was indeed a Katsu joint. I 've always loved mine in Ma Maison, or Tampopo, but with this experience, I have another place to enjoy one of my favourite Japanese foods! Imagine, crispy, juicy, tender, without any of that porky taste, and you know what I mean eh? Next time I crave any pork cutlets, I 'm-Gonna-Come-Here
The ambience is great. The Tonkatsu is juicy n goes well with curry. The poached egg in Udon is well done. And the sake! Wonderful selection!
Great Food. the ambience is fantastic as well. Ordered the Chicken Katsu Set. A friend ordered the Pork Katsu Don. Chicken is lightly breaded and has a great texture to it. It was juicy and very well seasoned. Would come back to try the Don Free refill for the cabbage slaw as well.
My husband and I decided to pop by for lunch as we were in the vicinity, and we were pleasantly surprised by the experience. We had the cheese pork katsu, the mentaiko pork katsu and the fried oysters. The mentaiko katsu was really tender and the mentaiko paste was absolutely heavenly. It was savoury with hint of sweetness, with absolutely no fishy aftertaste. The cheese pork katsu was generously stuffed with stretchy cheese and went very well with the plum sauce provided. I'm not a fan of oysters because of the fishy and metallic aftertaste, but an exception can be made for the oysters at Imakatsu. I'm not sure if it's because of how fresh the oysters were or because of the preparation or cooking technique, but the oysters here did not have that dreaded fishy and metallic flavour. The meat itself was sweet and it complemented the crisp panko very well.
Nice place for an informal tonkatsu meal. The pork is nicely marinated and the fry is just right. The unagi is also very well done. Go for the set meals for between 2-4 pax.
