Subway - Silverdale

The food is decent, similar to what you’d expect from any typical sub shop. The ambiance is nothing special, looking much like any other Subway. When I visited, the restaurant was clean, and the staff was observed washing their hands. I’ve hesitated to write this review for a month because I didn’t want to get an employee in trouble, but something that was said really left me feeling uneasy and is why I haven’t returned. One of the employees was preparing a sandwich and mentioned to a colleague, “I try not to eat here because I always get food poisoning!” While food poisoning can happen, it was concerning to hear that they said it in front of customers and implied it had occurred multiple times. Because of this, I don’t plan on returning, and I think Subway should address this food safety issue.

This Subway is located on the Bangor Navy base, and next door in the commissary, they offer gourmet sandwiches as well. It’s your typical Subway experience, with the main distinction being its location and the clientele, which primarily consists of base personnel. Dining options are somewhat limited here since the Inside Out Club is closed, so if you find yourself on base and in need of a meal, Subway is a solid choice.

I expect my sandwich to be thrown together carelessly—it's Subway, after all—but typically it’s still edible despite the lack of preparation. Not today. There was smashed avocado smeared all over the outside of my sandwich, making it a struggle to eat. After about five minutes, I just couldn't continue. The combination of the avocado on the outside, the unwanted warmth of the sandwich, and the steam from the cooked veggies resulted in a soggy mess that was impossible to eat. My bread was drenched. I understand that working there might be frustrating, but a little pride in your work wouldn't go amiss. If you can’t make a straightforward sandwich correctly, maybe you should consider a simpler job—something more suited to your skills, like picking up trash.
