The Saracens Head - Shirley

Well worth our trip down from Huddersfield to meet our friends, loved the relaxed fell to the place. The service was great all the staff nothing was too much trouble all our meals were fabulous the smoked haddock and cheese starter was to die for not to mention the cod in garlic butter, wines were affordable. We will definitely meet again at the Saracens Head to try some more outstanding dishes.

We have been visiting The Saracens Head prior to the change to a 'Gastropub '. We came upon it by chance and have visited it whenever we have been in the Ashbourne area. It is a good friendly restaurant in a well heeled country area. It was quiet when we arrived and busied up as time went on with customers familiar to the area. We feel that the food quality is above average. We enjoyed our meal and will come back again. As for the pricing structure you pay for what you get neither cheap nor as expensive as it could be.

I love the menu written on blackboards on the wall, a rather novel way to choose your meal. It's not a cheap meal out, but very nice for special occasions. My husband loves coming back. Lovely village setting .

The Saracen's Head manages the fine balancing act between smart restaurant and casual country pub perfectly. We were lucky to have a table with a nice outside view yet still close to the fire for added cosiness and atmosphere. All 3 of our meals were of excellent quality and ample portions, perfectly complemented by the artisan breads baked in-house. The service was friendly and efficient.
