Bidrage med feedbackThe service was adequate and mediocre. The food was above average. The 1st time I was there in March for a dinner and breakfast was fantastic.
Turn the lighting DOWN a notch or two, the ambiance would increase 5-800%!!!! And we will add two s. The present lighting is brighter than a Shoney's big Boy!!!!! The service has been always been superb and when the Chef is on his game the prep is equal to the service. Menu is interesting and prices fair for the wanna be dining experience. This place has the potential to DOMINATE THE FINE DINING SCENE IN THIS area , albeit, bucolic at best despite Sewanee (The U of the South). On a bad night it outshines any competition within 59 miles!!!!! The bar is a nice plus! with dimmed lighting
Staying in the inn, we creeped out of bed to get our fuel on before a Saturday of hiking. Hubs ordered the buffet and returned to the table with heaping plates of sausage, biscuits and gravy. I went for the Cumberland Skillet. Now, to qualify my upcoming review, I don't think I've ever ordered a skillet in my life. I was blown away at the yum-factor. Hot potatoes, red pepper and cracked egg yolks. Yes, it was indeed delicious. Cost was moderate somewhere around $25 for two. Service was good.
We saw their post on Facebook and decided to give them a try. This was a very good decision. First was the wow factor at the entrance, and the atmosphere was very elegant and relaxing! We were promptly seated and our server, James took our drink order. After returning with our drinks he took our dinner order. The wait for our food was very minimal and gave us time to really enjoy each other's company. We both had the prime rib (med rare), squash casserole, herb roasted potatoes, tomatoes/cucumber salad and cobbler. The prime was cooked to perfection! Squash casserole was very good. Potatoes seasoned and not over cooked. Tomatoes/cucumbers was better than a garden salad. The cobbler was multi-berry and very tart but good. I will definitely be back!!!!
Prices are higher compared to other breakfast places in nearby Winchester, but the quality of food justifies the cost. The service is generally very good; however, we have encountered some issues over the past year. There have been instances where our breakfast stretched over 1.5 hours due to service delays—be it a large group being catered to, an employee not showing up, or insufficient staff to handle the restaurant's busyness. The servers work diligently and are quite capable; they can only do so much when there aren't enough of them on duty, which impacts the service. On occasion, the cook seems to rush things, resulting in cold toast or overcooked eggs. Additionally, I've noticed a change in portion sizes; the grits used to be served in generous amounts, but lately they have become smaller. The toast previously came from a bakery in Tracy City and was exceptional, but now it often resembles lower-quality bread, similar to Wonder Bread. There seems to have been one or more changes in restaurant management, which might have contributed to these fluctuations. Breakfast can be outstanding, but at times it may take a long while, and the food might arrive burnt or cold. It’s a bit like a lottery—sometimes you hit the jackpot, other times not so much. Generally, the experience is quite positive, and the servers’ good nature and hard work make this restaurant a reliable choice for breakfast.
