Looks like they put more effort into the menu than the food, it 's 36 pages long and glossy as anything. The food was not. I ordered the Chicken Yakisoba Noodles, there is actually a picture on the mammoth menu which looks quite appetising, what I received bore no resemblance whatsoever. It was just a big box of bland noodles with a miniscule amount of bland chicken knocking about. Literally tasted of nothing. Also was advertised as spicy , I 'd wager nothing related to a chilli went near the wok. I could do better with my eyes closed, and £13.95 for a takeaway main?! I know a host of places I can get top class Asian food for a fraction of that. Clearly the place has good reviews and is still in business at those prices, so I don 't know if I got the new guy in the kitchen or something, but it was BAD. I would have given it another punt and ordered something else if the prices weren 't a rip off, but there 's plenty of places where I know I 'll get a good meal. Will not be back.
When we decide to grab a takeaway we usually go for convenience and therefore choose a local takeaway business. This time we decided to try Straits Kitchen as friends and family had recommended it. The service was impeccable, order placed easily due to a well informed menu, the recipient of the call made it very clear as to time to arrive and phone when you park up, they asked you to stay in car and brought everything out to you (COVID measures) which we thought was appropriate. The food was delicious, very tasty and filling, nothing was wasted. The sauces with the meals tasted fabulous. We had boneless pork ribs in Cantonese sauce, duck spring rolls with hoisin sauce and shared a main meal chicken in garlic chilli sauce. We truly recommend Straits Kitchen fir those looking for tasty food and great service. Thank you Peter and Donna.
Last Saturday we dicided to celebrate Lunar New Year of the Ox by getting a take-away supper. I scouted arund the internet and decided to try The Straits Kitchen in Lytham Road because it is close to home and we had not tried it. The website is very clear and upfront about the Covid precautions which was reassuring: Order by phone, agree a time, wait outside and phone on arrival, food is brought out to you. Menu was more interesting than the run of Chines take-aways. There are quite a few Japanese dishes and a few Chines ones which were unfamiliar to us. We settled on a vegetable noodle dish, sweet and sour chicken and a chicken dish with cashews. Unusually there is a number of desserts available too which we would not normally have chosen but we noticed that they offer Portugeuse Custard Tarts. Now, I have had these in Portugal, Macao and several time sin UK so we included these in our order. As they were very busy on Saturday and we did not want to wait unditl 9pm to eat they offered to prepare our order early and asked us to collect at 4.55pm, just before they opened. We were impressed with the organisation and service. Unfortunately the food was a disappintment. Sweet and sour chicken was tough and stringy and the other dishes were very run of the mill. The custard tarts were a rip-off: nothing like Portugeuse tarts- just plain egg custard tarts available from any supermarket Will we give them another chance? Unlikely.
I contacted to request a surprise meal for my dad and family, I live in Yorkshire so couldn't visit. He is 84 today. They were so accomodating, can't thank them enough.
This was my very first visit to Straits Kitchen an Asian takeawy with a difference. Their online presence is poor and I struggled to find read a menu. When I did locate the menu, my first thoughts were about the prices top end for a takeaway, with main dishes up to nearly £20. But the online reviews were good, so I decided to tread cautiously and order a meal for one to test the water . At about 5.30 pm on a Wednesday evening, I phoned my order and was advised it would be about 30 minutes. I duly arrived and the food was ready as stated. Service was professional, friendly efficient. A good start. As this was during the Covid19 lockdown , exchange of food carrier bag payment was handled thoughtfully professionally the owner bringing the food out of the venue to my car placing it directly in my boot. Physical distances were maintained. All very reasuring. The modern looking and spotlessly clean venue is on Lytham Road, Marshside easy to find once you know where, but otherwise tucked away out of sight for many people! I collected a menu, which is very attractively designed a quality touch, giving sufficient descriptions of each dish and some amazing food photographs it will have you drooling! I chose: Salt Pepper Pork Steak Ribs which were boneless. The small portion was £8.95 Japanese Sweet Sour Chicken gluten free tempura chicken with a glazed sauce. The small portion was £8.95 and Egg Fried Pearl Rice. Portion sizes were fine for one. I was comfortably full after my meal. Flavours were delicious. Ingredients top quality and the level of cooking far superior to any other Chinese take aways Ihave tried in Southport. It really was an eye opener. In summary the food is relatively expensive, but is attractively presented, freshly cooked and a quality, falvourful experience. I will be returning and treat myself again. The range of food on offer is extensive and has some amazing sounding dishes, which I am confident would be delicious. Think Japanese, Thai, Malaysian, Singaporean Chinese. PRO TIP: 2 x small dishes and rice are sufficient for one. For small read regular for portion size.
