The Balmar - Seattle

When I think back to the first time I went to BalMar, my thoughts were of a quieter, more upscale, nice place. But when we walked in, it felt different. I’m not implying that Bal-Mar is a run-down dive bar or anything like that, but for some reason I was picturing white tablecloths. Instead we got a nice place, kind of narrow but deep. On the right when you walk in is a seating area with some dark wood high tables and chairs that make conversation easier. The bar stretches along the right wall to the back. On the left, there is a staircase leading to a second floor bar area (it was reserved for a private party on this night), and under the staircase are some couches and chairs for a more intimate setting.

Amazing Atmosphere! I visited BalMar on a Monday night to enjoy a few cocktails, and I was immediately struck by the ambiance. The space has an urban, loft-like feel with exposed brick walls adorned with artwork from local artists. The soft candlelight creates a perfect setting for an intimate drink with someone special. I decided to try two cocktails from their menu: the Stark and Doomy, along with the PDX Mixed Tape, which is their drink of the month. Both drinks impressed me with their unique flavors. The prices are reasonable, with cocktails at $9 on the menu and $6 during happy hour. The Stark and Doomy has become one of my favorites, especially with its delicious ginger foam topping! Although I didn’t sample any appetizers this time, I definitely plan to order some on my next visit. Overall, I loved the atmosphere and will certainly return, especially given its convenient location on Ballard Ave. Cheers!

Nice date place!. Excellent seared ahi tuna and good drinks.Downtairs has nice atmosphere, what with exposed brick, lighting and all. Upstairs pool area though feels like a classier college see-and-be-seen bar.Overall, a worthy destination.

Happy hour is fantastic! Mondays feature happy hour all night long. Kate is an exceptional server, and Taiko is great as well. The calamari is amazing, and the sliders are delicious! Don't miss trivia night on Tuesdays upstairs. Oh, and I almost forgot to mention the grilled cheese sandwich—it's incredible!

NIce ambiance. Nice lounge with a good selection of microbrews. Gets kind of loud towards the late hours, but can still have a conversation. Worth trying.
