Ichi-riki Japanese - Seaside

The food wasn't bad but the service was a disappointment. It's tough to justify a fat tip when all they do is hand the food over the counter to you, plus I felt more like an intruder than a customer. I have been a server and know what good service is and what deserves a fat tip, much less 15%, usually it starts with a smile and I did not see one employee smile the entire visit. Plus it was terribly overpriced.

The food and service were very good, but I have to give 1 star for the atmosphere as they allow customers to bring their pets into the restaurant. These were not service dogs and like most animals, they shed hair, so with all the open areas with food, it would be easy for dog hair to contaminate food prep areas. Two separate customers were inside the restaurant with their dogs and It’s just not sanitary.

I almost don't want to leave a review so that I can still get a table here. This is, in my opinion, the absolute best restaurant in the Monterey area for sushi and other Japanese cuisine. The service is excellent and the food is outstanding. Every. Single. Dish. It is beautifully displayed on gorgeous plates, bowls, etc..., it's fresh, and tastes amazing. Table spacing is comfortable, along with the atmosphere. It never seems too loud and you are free to talk without having to yell or whisper at one another. The bar area is clean and fun. The restrooms are also a treat. If you go, you'll understand. I wouldn't miss this spot. Is it super fancy/over the top? No. It's very worth your time and money though.

Amazing sushi!!! Best I have had on the west coast.
