Bidrage med feedbackI visited the Taste of Belgium restaurant at the Greene on December 31, 2023, with friends. Upon arrival, a lovely lady greeted us, but 20 minutes passed without service. Meanwhile, the next group to arrive was seated and served drinks. I called the lady, who was also the manager, to inquire about the delay. She apologized and got us drinks, but our server reacted angrily when my friend expressed dissatisfaction with the service. The manager returned, and we asked her to serve us since she was available, but she refused and asked us to leave, citing racism. This experience left a sour taste, and I advise people of color to avoid this restaurant
Most of the food was good but the service was lacking. If you come here with a good sized group, be prepared to have to ask for the most basic of restaurant service and charged a 20% auto-gratuity not mentioned anywhere on the menu for the favor. We made a reservation for six with OpenTable that they didn’t have (something else that seems to be an issue for many people . The hostess, who ended up being one of our waitresses, which she made clear she wasn’t happy about, had an attitude about that as well. Fortunately (well, perhaps unfortunately? that wasn’t a problem because the place was fairly dead on a beautiful August Saturday night at 6pm. I guess that should have clued us in… We were put in a back room and pretty much ignored unless one of our multiple servers had to be back there. My husband was shorted one of two eggs on his plate of steak and eggs and the server didn’t bother to mention it until he flagged her down to ask where the second egg was. Somehow it took 12 minutes from receiving the plate to get the second over-easy egg….which was unsurprisingly way-overcooked, and a not-so-great addition to a now-cold steak. Another member of the party had mushy-strawberries on her plate, which was disappointing. We had to ask for refills rather than them being offered. My husband had to bring up the fact it was someone at the table’s birthday (which was mentioned on the reservation , because they didn’t bother to ask if we were in for a special occasion. The food is just too overpriced for crummy service, especially with a 20% auto-grat. I could have understood if they’d been busy, but they weren’t. My assumption is that they were spending more time on tables that weren’t forced to tip, but had someone on their staff managed to step up, they would have received a nice percentage on a very large check. Won’t be back to this location and judging by the lack of business compared with other places in the area, don’t expect the restaurant to be in Mason much longer anyway.
Food was good. However this is a cashless business, which wouldn’t be bad EXCEPT when you pay your waitress the tips default to 20% go up from there. I’m usually a good tipper, but I don’t like it being assumed that the service is great and worthy of me paying 20-30% more. As well when you purchase from the bakery they automatically add a tip to your order. Cracker Barrel has more options and better food.
The service was wonderful and the Goetta hash was yummy. The Chicken and waffles were chewy but tasty. We would definitely go back
Waffles were good but very small. I had a Belgian waffle with Nutella and strawberries (instead of bananas) and it was good but small. My husband had the waffle eggs Benedict it was good, but again small, especially for the price of around $15 it was only 1 waffle with 1 egg and some ham, no side potatoes or anything. The restaurant could use a little cleaning the seat next to me had a bunch of hair on it and when my sweater fell against the wall it got dirty from all of the dust on the trim.
