Bidrage med feedbackI hadn 't ate or drank in the Highlander for quite some so when a friend was staying nearby we arranged to meet up in there and from the time we arrived we received good old fashioned frendliness and great service, a great choice of ales and belly busting pub grub We chose steak pie and Lincolshire sausages both of which were superb. My thanks to all there, I 'll Be Back !
It was awful the boss threatening people and saw him spit in someone’s food. He threatens staff and told me to go away when asking if they had something so rude.
My wife and I, after spending a whole day walking around the beach, decided to eat at the Highlander after finding several of the restaurants were closed. We were very hungry, we found the staff very pleasant. I ordered a surf and turf and my wife ordered a fish pie. My wife stipulated that my steak needed to be rare. Oh dear! Even before it arrived to the table, there was indications that my steak looked like a piece of leather! It was definitely not rare but cremated. There was no blood left in it at all. It is possible that the Whitby vampires came and sucked all the blood out first! Meanwhile on the plate, were some very hard prawns that could’ve been used for a game of conkers! After saying that I was still hungry so I ate this delightful dish from the 80’s. Meanwhile my wife tucked into her fish pie which contained one little cube of fish and three hard prawns nearly shattering her beautiful teeth. The bottom and sides of her pie were crusty and burnt. But as she was so hungry, she smothered it with six packets of tomato ketchup to make the flavour stand out. Unfortunately, I can’t recommend the food at the Highlander, but I hope you might be one of the lucky ones.
This is the second time we have been for a lunch and the first time was lovely. This time not so good. The steak pie was burnt to a frazzle. They said it was the glaze but it was black inside as well. Once the pastry was off the meat inside was lovely. The fries and peas were also fine. Just a shame they served it as it was.
Thus is a friendly local pub very near The Crown Spa Hotel. There is a very good selection of real ales as well as every other drink imaginable. Some tables were dining and the food looked good. So, a good experience. I do think the toilets are in need of upgrading, maybe management have it on their list to do.
