La Lanterna - Scarborough

Our first time at this restaurant but it differently won’t be our last. The ambiance of the place transported us back to our time in Italy; the service was very professional, knowledgeable and friendly. The Food; the food was again authentic, delicious and mouth-watering. The menu had plenty of choice, not extensive but enough to choose from; washed down with some excellent wine from the bar. Outstanding night. Treat yourself and try you won’t be disappointed.

While on a family vacation, we stumbled upon this small Italian restaurant just across from the beach area of Redcliffe. It was such a happy experience, we returned two more times! Back home now in California, we are missing their homemade focaccia bread that Alex explained was in the Genova style. Simply addictive! Out of three visits, every meal was authentic and so delicious in its simplicity. Small wine list, but excellent choices, very well matched to the menu. The atmosphere is very inviting and personal and the friendly service a major component in our reason for returning. If we lived anywhere in the Brisbane area, we would be regulars at La Lanterna!

We booked this restaurant to meet with our travelling friends based on the tripadvisor reviews and I am so pleased that we did! Alex was absolutely fabulous, checking if we were ok with the music volume, very patient with all of our questions about the menu and drinks, making wonderful recommendations and even laughing at Dad jokes :). We started with the savoury cake of the day, sadly I can't recall the name but it was delicious - flaky pastry and delicious moist filling. I then had a difficult time choosing between the Risotto al vino rosso and the Lasagnette al pesto- Alex suggested the pesto, and it was wonderful, perfectly balanced flavours and light, fresh pasta. My partner and one of our friends tried the Pansotti con salsa di noci - beautifully presented, smelled and tasted delicious (I couldn't help but steal a bite). Our other friend ordered the Polpette al sugo, again,lovely presentation, delicious smell and taste and the offer of extra bread to mop up the sauce. Normally after a pasta meal the last thing I want is dessert, but the serving sizes were perfect and the pasta so light and fresh that we couldn't resist, and both the profiteroles and tiramisu lived up to the rest of the meal. Getting a delicious three course meal with great ambience and fabulous staff for under $50 per person makes this a wonderful find, we will definitely be returning!

You cannot go wrong at this restaurant. We have tried pretty much everything and it is always cooked with care to perfection. Amazing melt in the mouth pasta and their gnocchi and pesto sauce is amazing. The steak and fish are premium quality and the service is fantastic. Prices are great and the chefs selection is a beautiful treat. Love this little piece of Genoese in Redcliffe
