Good selection of products, many vegan options, some bulk food beans, a product section on the back, some vegan cheese in a cooler with the milk cheeses. good health food shop. annual membership is $20, but they can buy a three-month membership for $5 if they are temporarily in the city.
I leave on steep hill for approx. 3/4 of my food. they get a lot of production all year round, although sad only once a week (get there on Monday or they could miss out on some things. they supply many local products, including aubergines, biscuits and tomaten earlier in the year as possible in a conventional garden. there is a seasonal component, so many cherry, grapes and other fruits in summer (also in the next season, but less options . many tasty sweetness, fair trade chocolate, sweetness, ice cream desserts (coconut-based, soy-based. nuts, seeds, dried fruits, conserve (chilis, sour) I notice that some find it expensive, but when they ask what the wholesale prices are, they will see that they are not very marked. it is true that it is not cheap food, but I find it very reasonable to consider that it has many local and organic products.
I just went to Steep Hills for the first time. It is pretty crowded, but they do have a lot of stuff. I was able to find many of my vegan products e.g., Earth Balance, tempeh, Veganaise, etc. . Fresh produce is delivered on Mondays, so if you are looking to buy produce that would be the day to go. Also, students can buy a membership for 50% off $10 for a year . It's also good to know that they only accept cash or cheques no credit cards or interac.
While I realize that the staff are mostly volunteers just in to get their hours so they don't have to pay a bunch extra on top of high prices, the level of rude behavior is completely outrageous. If a cashier/salesperson acted like that at a 7/11, a grocery store or a gift shop, they would be fired immediately. As to prices, 25% on top of already high prices is ridiculous. I was most disappointed to find that their local, organic products are 3-4 times as expensive as the supermarket and at least twice as pricey as a farmer's market. If you live on any kind of budget, choose carefully at Superstore adn wash well.
