Bidrage med feedbackI came here with my actual mom to try out mom can cook. There was no mom in sight that cooked our food. It was a man that cooked our food. The reason we came to eat here was because we won a gift certificate that had $25 on it. After using it, the actual price exceeded this $25. We spent additional money maybe another 25$ or so for two dishes. So each dish was about $20ish which to me is way overpriced especially given that I had much better Thai food. We did order calamari and it was an additional $4 because it was seafood and same with the shrimp. The markup after covid is criminal. However, we needed to get rid of this gift certificate as it had an expiration date. The service felt rushed, they close at 3pm for some reason and we got there at 2pm that day we went. The guy kept asking us after we ate our food, if we were ready to leave and would like the check immediately after we finished the two plates. My advice, be quiet and let me relax and enjoy what I just consumed. It was about 2:50 pm and were just paid and left as quickly as possible. They did overcharge us for the dinner portions even though we were there before dinner was served. They reopen later at night for dinner. Overall, food was fatty, greasy, tasty and small portioned. I didn't like the service that much, but the food was decent quality. The price however, was not fairly priced for customers given the size of the meal. No meal in my opinion with a small plate of pad Thai and pad see ew should ever be over $20 and the additional 4$ for seafood was not worth it. Yes, the shrimp and calamari were delicious, but it was not a whole lot. I went and got some ice cream after since I was hungry still. Inside was spacious and clean, the service was fast but also rushed. Value of food was not worth the price tag. Overall, I have mixed feelings about mom can cook. Should have renamed it something else considering no moms were inside cooking.
It 's really a shame. When I first started coming to this hole in the wall Thai restaurant in the back of a decrepit strip mall, I was astounded by the flavorful food they served. Mom was still cooking and her son was the host. Everything about this place reeked of charm and the food backed up the wonderful ambiance. Sadly, this is no longer the case. As Mom Can Cook has grown in popularity, they expanded the size of the restaurant, and now cater to a much larger clientele. As a result, the food, which has always been the main drawing point has taken an unfortunate nose dive. I visited again last night. I won 't be visiting again. We ordered their famous pad thai, mixed veggies, yellow curry, and pineapple fried rice. The pad thai was still pretty good. However, this can 't be said for the rest. The yellow curry lacked flavor... The curry was very watery and had no kick even though we ordered it medium. The pineapple fried rice had very little cashews, pineapple, and raisins. Lacking flavor in their dishes in one thing but chinsing on key ingredients is another altogether. Very disappointing. The mixed veggies were ok... I liked the sauce it was in. I don 't treat myself to Thai food often. When I do I want my socks knocked off with the amazing flavors. This visit to Mom Can Cook unfortunately left my socks on. It 's really a shame what has become of this place. Next time I 'm heading back to the true champion of Thai food in the SCV. Jasmine Thai in Valencia.
My favorite Thai restaurant in SCV! I recommend the Thai Tea and pineapple fried rice!!
Excellent Thai food. I love the nice, cozy seating and incredible artwork that depicts Thai culture well. The staff are super friendly, they speak in their native tounges hope that are not talking about me LOL . Our food has delicious flavors, and my Thai iced tea was a star. The eggrolls were tiny but full of veggie flavor and paired well with the dipping sauce. We ordered some fried rice and curry, both of which were fire. I told the host to bump up my spice lever to the max, and he said ok as he laughed and walked away. i was expecting the curry to be super spicy, but it was pretty mild. On a scale of 1-10, the spice level was around 5ish, it warmed me up on the cold, wet November night.
I've tried this place 3x. In my humble opinion, the ratings are overhyped. It's good, but not memorable. However I'm willing to try again.
