Great location close to downtown and wharf. Our room was decent size and clean. Hosts try hard to please. Breakfast now in parlor which is better for socializing. Breakfast about average. Cottages are actually separate properties across and next to main house.
Nice room ambiance- Victorian Suite. Lovely grounds and patio. Breakfast excellent. This B&B is very convenient to downtown restaurants, the Museum and bookstores. It’s located in an old and quaint neighborhood. Only flaw- very tiny bathroom and shower stall. All in all we enjoyed our stay very much.
Stayed in Nouveau Suite for 3 nights this ast week of July, so Tuesday-Friday. I thought the stay was so, so. Had a much better experience in The Hideaway room several years ago when they brought breakfast to your room. Jacuzzi was nice being able to locked the gate at night was reassuring as a single woman! I found the bed very uncomfortable the breakfast was disappointing... I am not an egg or fruit person, so I had toast tried the quiche. It was wet nasty! I asked for some turkey b/c there was only ham out I am not a ham eater! I asked the woman who was cleaning tables if I could have some turkey. She told me that they only had ham have to be cost conscious about food going to waste. Didn’t think that was the best response to give a guest. I left to spend time w/my daughter (who lives in SB), left the air conditioning on because SB was having a heat wave! I came back housekeeper had turned it off the room was very hot uncomfortable I couldn’t stand it!! My daughter I sat outside for a while to let the room cool down I got eaten up by mosquitoes. Third night when I returned to my room couldn’t find my glasses I left on my bed. Next morning got up caught the train, called the Inn to say that I couldn’t find my glasses John (I guess the Innkeeper) passed me to the housekeeper (w/ limited English) to speak to. Not sure why he did that. Anyway; hung up received a call about 15 minutes later from John about accusing his housekeeper of stealing my glasses, which was never the issue... I told him they were $20.00 glasses (meaning not a big issue), he said “ now you want reimbursement”. He launched into a lecture about this the honesty of his housekeeper, which I thought was totally inappropriate. By this time I was on the train was beyond frustrated w/this whole situation told him I thought the breakfast was pretty bad hung up!! Bizarre experience....
Yeh, this was not a good fit for us. 1. The property smelled of raw sewage off and on for the whole weekend. 2. After an exhausting initial conversation, we never saw the Innkeeper again. He vanished. Seriously, never. And that is probably best. 3. The phone number they post on web sites is not working. The working number is given to you upon arrival and is for 'urgent concerns. ' 4. There was a 'bed ' on site, but there was 'no breakfast. ' Also, no advance phone call or email alerting us to the change, no coupons or vouchers. There was a communal mini-fridge and microwave for guests that we located. The communal sink did not work. No ice machine. No extra toilet paper. No extra towels. I could go on and on. It would have been helpful to know about all this in advance. 5. I did find that the posted license from the Health Department. It expired on December 31, 2020. 6. I also located the posted business license from the city. It expired on May 31, 2021. 7. Let 's talk a tiny bit about the Innkeeper. I think he was the Innkeeper. He took our credit card, gave us the key, and then proceeded to shared his opinions on current affairs. You should know that he believes the COVID-19 Pandemic is fake. He literally said that. He told us we should take off our masks. He said the 'current administration ' is the reason he can 't serve food. With his words in our head, we bathed our room with disinfectant wipes and wore our masks around the property when we were not in our room. 6. The hotel does have a 24 hour advance cancelation policy. So buyer beware. Had we known any of these things in advance, we would have gone elsewhere. And once we found out the situation, we were already charged for our stay and were not in a position to afford a second place to stay.
