Gene's Carry-out - Sandwich

I've been to Gene's chicken for over 100 times. It used to live right next to the place. Try the beef roll, great pizza that will hit every upper midwest pizzeria hands down. The fried chicken is epic. They also do a family fried chicken flour. So if you come to the largest county fair in Illinois the sandwich fair of the first Wed thru Sunday Labor Day week, you need to check this place. It's just an hour drive or 60 miles west of Chicago or 70 miles south of Rockford.

It's been here for 30 years. There are beef rolls, pizza and chicken are excellent choices at any time.

I love this place. The best beef rolls ever. I worked here when I was 17 years ago 18 years ago (Yikes). The owner taught me not only good work ethics, but also that as owner of a facility, never be too proud, any and all tasks you do your staff. I now own my own business in another state far away and remember what I learned with my own staff a long time ago. When I return to visit my family, I am always looking forward to stopping by for my favorite sandwich IL-Food A Genes Beef Roll with extra crispy French Pommes (one of the few places she actually makes extra crispy when I ask).

I haven't eaten here for years... forget what we missed when we pulled out of sandwich. The reef rolls were also fantastic as reheat the next day. Our sausage pizza was also really good, sweeter sauce like Suzy in Plano. Very satisfied.

We tried out Gene's after my sister's play at the high school and I was pleasantly surprised. It may not look like too much from the outside but we ordered a family order of the fried chicken, 2 beef rolls, a small pepperoni pizza, mashed potatoes, coleslaw, and onion rings. The fried chicken was so fresh, hot, crispy, and delicious! The pizza was also very good, but I didn't care too much for the beef rolls. The beef itself was a little dried out. The sides were all god as well and the prices weren't bad at all. The service was pretty good, too, nothing outstanding or terrible. The chicken, though, made the visit worth the while! I'll definitely be back!
