My husband and I are back visiting in Virginia Beach. It was lunchtime, so we turned to our good friend Yelp! Thanks to you awesome folks, we found The Chipper. There is not a huge menu, but come on, there doesn’t need to be. I’m a firm believer in do what you know best and stick to it. The folks at The Chipper know fish!I asked the wonderful counter attendant which is better the cod or the flounder. Being a great attendant she asked me my level of fish enjoyment (beginner or huge fan? . I am a huge fan (now as an adult never as a child ? so I told her big fan. She said then you want the flounder, great flavor. So that’s what I had. Justin ordered the fried sausage. We split fried shrimp and slaw. The portions are amazing! Lots of fresh cut Idaho potatofries that are tender on the inside and crisp on the outside. The fillet was enormous and the batter crisp, right thickness and the fillet tender, flakey and juicy. They serve the fish with tarter sauce and malt vinegar and the sausage with a tasty mustard. The shrimp had a light airy batter and held up nicely against the perfectly cooked shrimps. Served with cocktail sauce.Everyone was so nice. The interior of the dining room is bright and inviting, with the bathrooms spotless.I highly recommend a stop to enjoy a delicious bite to eat. Well done ladies!!!
I love new places to eat and I especially like a place that makes a good chicken tender. You might say, chicken tenders! What's so special about chicken tenders? Well, good chicken tenders are moist, tender and lightly breaded. These are by far some of the most tender and moist tenders I've found. They have many other items on the menu besides tenders but they are what will have me coming back to have them again!
Imported Imported Fish! Wow! Blink too long and you'll almost certainly miss it. In case you don't miss it, please go in to try it. This fish and chips diner is second to none. I was so impressed by the quality of the fish. I've been to Faslane, Scotland twice and it reminded me every bit of that. The way the fish is fried and the chips to. The menu is straight to the point. There aren't a lot of questions you'll be searching for. I order the fried Haddock which was the size of my forearm. It is definitely a shareable size. It was not full of bread and grease. It had a lot of fish meat inside. I loved that it didn't crumble as we were tearing at it. The prices are above market but the fish is imported so that I understand. I paid 17 dollars for the Haddock but again it was a very large piece of fish and a large serving of chips. Do yourself the favor and please try this gem!
We live near here so decided to check it out. Opened earlier this year. The menu has a good amount of variety.. plates, sandwiches, etc..even burgers. We weren't starving so my husband I decided to split a plate of fish chips. For the restaurant entre price it cost I was expecting 2 pieces of fish, but only comes with one 5x3 or 4 inch piece, though thick, on a bed of fries. The fish was cooked very well...moist inside, perfection crispness on the outside, tasty! very hot (served immediately after cooking). But the fries (chips) definitely were not crispy or very hot. There were bags of fresh potatoes there so they probably make the fries from fresh potatoes, that could explain it since frozen fries make better french fries. Or maybe it's an English thing I don't know. In any case, the fries were lackluster unappealing compared with the perfection of the fried fish. Came with a double-shot glass sized cup of coleslaw (not too sweet) a mini cup of tarter sauce. Plastic eat wear. Pleasant relaxing decor. You order at the counter and they bring your food to your table. You take your own trash and tray to the trash can upon leaving. About 7 or so tables. Staff nice enough. That piece of fish was good, but all in all due to our budget small portions for the we probably won't go back. Still a nice addition to the neighborhood.
