Nice place. Relaxed atmosphere. The owners really care about you. You often expect your needs before you know that you need things. They also allow you to place food and beverages on a tab, so you can just float for an invoice at the end. Less have to chase around to Pesos.
If all you want is a location on the sand, this is the place, but otherwise there are some things lacking. The Wi-Fi is spotty at best, water, of course is always a problem down here, but the shower is almost worthless. And the mosquito netting in the bedroom is there for a reason!
Well, after more than 6 weeks, my reactions are stronger than ever; Kate and Re offer accommodation (with the recognized best view of the beach) and experiences in view of your needs, wishes and skills. Cafe Maya is known for breakfast, but the real secret is the gourmet dinner menu at plebeian prices, We had [Dinamite a new tuna presentation with avocado and gurke with soya and a touch of Siracha $85 MX; Seared sashimi tuna with still crispy teriyaki veggies and rice $135MX; and the special of the day, Filet Mignon 8 Any expectation that Kate spoke during our first trip from Huatulco Airport (HUX) was met or exceeded no small performance for family businesses. I found Cafe Maya/ Casa Acalli online and researched it in detail on several websites. While we were here only five days, I find that the last reviews still underestimate this “best buy” type of establishment. As such it can be a delicate rough around the edges (e.g. the steps to the best rooms are narrow and steep and in some of the rooms the floors are smooth, but ground, concrete). Sure, higher price settings offer finer details, but as cheap accommodation and restaurant, it is very difficult to beat. Café Maya/Casa Acalli is a family-run affair and the benefits of her hard work and dedication are evident from the kind regards to repairs and upgrades and even attention to personal nutritional needs. As in any small family business, however, there are limited resources and if the restrictions are in areas of special need for the customer, it could be a little bumpy. There seems to be a steady stream of individuals and couples whose commonness seems to create an open brotherhood of guests; both new and return. The proprietress, Kate, prepares a fantastic and relatively cost-effective selection of menu items. Café Maya is a popular choice for a rich, tasty breakfast that sometimes includes homemade bread! The above comments are easy to the fact that Cafe Mays/Casa Acalli is ON the beach, although the quieter end of this beach.
We had breakfast at Cafe Maya and it was a nice long party that lasted several hours. We had two dishes with cappuccino and juice and coffee. A crepe with ham and Oaxacan cheese and Omelette with the same and French filled toast and a complete breakfast with fruit and eggs. You should be in a relaxed mood and not in a hurry because the nice lady does everything herself. We have great appetite and we are happy to use the umbrellas and chairs for almost half of the day. Everything was well prepared. A very loving atmosphere from the place. 10/10
