Bidrage med feedbackI was blown away by the amazing authentic Mexican food at this restaurant. Coming from Washington, we don't have anything like this. The prices were reasonable, the food was delicious, and the staff was incredibly friendly. I highly recommend this place - they did an excellent job. Thank you so much!
I wouldn't want to share these delicious burritos from Santa Cruz Taqueria Express. If I had the ability to make burritos this good, I would keep them all to myself. Despite what Christopher McCandless said in Into the Wild about happiness being real when shared, I'd rather be selfish with these amazing burritos. Maybe that's why I never learned how to make them myself. Santa Cruz Taqueria Express understands the power and responsibility of sharing happiness through their food, and I'm grateful for that. I even took a picture of the burrito before devouring it, and sometimes I find myself going back to look at it in my camera roll. I briefly considered making it my screen saver, but I don't think I'd ever get anything done if I did. My family all changed their screen savers to our new baby niece, Maeve, so maybe I'll create a split screen with her and the burrito. Thank you, Santa Cruz Taqueria Express, for sharing your delicious burritos and spreading happiness.
It has been a while since I last dined at Taqueria Santa Cruz. I graduated from Cal Poly in 2016, so returning to this location was a new experience for me. My usual order has always been the chimichanga, and this visit was no exception. I also got myself a horchata, as I usually do. Although the chimichanga is now priced the same as the Super burrito (unlike before), it still tastes just as delicious as it did years ago. While the value may not be as strong as it once was, I still consider it the best chimichanga in its price range, which is saying something. I am from the Bay Area, where the competition in Mexican food is fierce. Most restaurants in San Luis Obispo wouldn't be able to measure up, but when it comes to the chimichanga from Taqueria Santa Cruz, it is truly top-notch. The horchata was a bit on the thinner side, but it was still satisfactory and provided good value. I don't visit this area often, but when I do, I always make it a point to indulge in a chimichanga.
Once again, I am confused by the style of Mexican food offered in SLO.I ordered a Grande Quesadilla, and expected it to be like all other quesadillas I've had at taco shops: a flour tortilla folded over and filled with cheese, served with pico, sour cream, lettuce, and guac on the side. For $7, I knew it would be smaller, so that's fine. The issue is that it wasn't really a quesadilla, it was two flour tortillas filled with a slight sprinkling of cheese, shredded lettuce, sour cream, guac, and carne. It was unsliced and just really messy to eat, stuff falling out of the sides.Other than the quesadilla, this taco shop makes tacos and burritos that are fine/good enough and par the course for SLO.
I am so sad to give the bad review, because the food is delicious, however the service was horrible and had me beyond embarrassed walking out of there. I called in a order, which was ready for me when i arrived, great..awesome! Paid, grabbed my food then walked over to the drink station and filled my to go cup but was not given a lid, not was there any in sight. I figured i would ask for one after i got my chips and salsa since the owner/cashier was busy helping customers. Filled my chip bag then moved on over to the salsa bar and while i was filling my salsa cups another customer reached over my food and drink to grab something and knocked my cup over. Drink spilled mostly on the floor with a little on some chips and in one of the almost empty salsa containers.......... The customer who knocked the drink over mentioned to the owner that there was a spill and you would have thought we flooded the place by the reaction we got from the owner.......... She came over to the chip are and very dramatically motioned towards a faded cutting board that said no cups ....... She then proceeded to yell who owes me $90?!?! WHO?! , stomps back to the register to help someone else then tells them sorry you do t get chips because some one wasted them and now owes me $90!!!! ... Another worker came over to mop up and i had started wiping off the counters trying to make sure no more liquids went into the chips.... She came back over yelled once more who owes me $90?! Then grabs napkins and tells me I got this, you go do you or whatever! .................. needless to say, i felt so ashamed and didn 't even bother asking for a new cup just grabbed my food and ran out... I get its frustrating when there is a spill... as i worked food industry for many years but that reaction was beyond rude and dramatic!!!
