Mezcal - San Jose

Nice cocktails, good food. Best chapulines I've ever had. Okay, they're the only chapulines I've ever had.

Sorry to say it, but it was super bland food. Also a very non traditional preparation (ie a chunky chicken breast set atop a plate of enchiladas). I wouldn’t leave a bad review except that I genuinely hope they can try to start to embrace bolder more authentic flavor profiles in their food. Have had more flavorful Mexican in virtually every major city in the US.

Last week I came here for dinner with family who was visiting from out of town. I've been here maybe 4 times before but this time it felt really different. The place was blaring music very loud like it was a club, both inside and outside. I couldn't even hear my parents talking from across the table. I'm not sure what atmosphere they were going for but it wasn't what I normally remember it being. I remember it being a cozy place to sit with friends and talking over dinner and enjoy drinks. The hostess was very nice, checked us into our reservation earlier and sat us down. The patio outside was closed off for a private event so we ate inside. Our server on the other hand was not very pleasant. Always felt like we were bothering him or taking up his time. Rushing to get our order, popping in out of nowhere to ask if wanted to order more food or drinks. Never once asked how our food was, never suggested any food or drinks, I don't even think he asked if we wanted dessert. Yeah, that night was not how I expected or remember Mezcal. It really was a bit sad that night was not as great as expected. I really thought we would spend around 2 hours there, eating, drinking, talking but we were in and out in 40min think.

This place is a hidden gem! Super cool vibes and very good Mexican food. Great veg options particularly enjoyed the enchiladas suizas and the enfrijoladas. Vibes are super cool!
