Intimate and friendly atmosphere with solid wine options and good bites! Staff is super welcoming as well.
Sad to say, Fig and Thistle used to be this charming gem in an alley way, now it's taken up ownership with Outtasight Pizza on Gough (I don't really understand the arrangement and it's unclear when you go in) It's a cute place with nice evening ambience BUT here's the problem: A friend and I went there for just a drink at the bar and were charged an automatic 20% gratuity! So 2 drinks that should have been a decent price (and would have added a tip) were now $45 for 2 teeny glasses of wine. Not OK. Even though I'm not a huge fan of auto gratuity in general, I get it for a meal, but not for alcohol only. While this may sound petty, it's not, it's the principle that drinks, which are already marked up 25% and one easy order vs. food and anything complex. I won't be going back there anymore.
This venue is petite, I've taken my parents and a small group of coworkers. I can talk endlessly with wine makers and farmers. I've always felt cozy here. It's never pretentious
What a nice way to spend a Friday evening in the city. Wandered in and was immediately geared warmly by Nestor (the whole team exude warm hospitality) who was able to accommodate us without reservations. The space is cozy and the counter seating allowed is to get to know our host a bit better with introductions. Highly recommended the Tavern pizza and add the Phoebe of the hunger pangs are mighty. Two pizzas were more than enough for two with plenty forbtake away enjoyment.
