Bidrage med feedbackFirst time come here on a Saturday lunchtime, putting the name on the waiting list and waited for almost 2 hours. The environment is pretty simple and delightful. Ordered a steak, sesame muffin and also appetizer muffin. Everything was so delicious and super super presentable. Totally worth the two hour wait. We were so blown away by how beautiful and tasty the food was. Second time come here on a Thursday lunchtime. Waiting for about 10 minutes, and got a table for five people. Realize they don’t serve steak during the week time, what a pity. Order some new dishes, still very very presentable, for the taste was just OK. Maybe my expectations were too high because of how good the food were at the first time.
Pro Tip: Be aware that they automatically include a 15% gratuity, and the dishes are quite pricey with generous portions. We ordered the Mochiko chicken loco moco and Kahlua Pork with cabbage to share among three of us, and it completely filled us up—we could only manage to finish about two-thirds of the food. Normally, I have a hearty appetite, but I wanted to leave some room for the mochi desserts. The food was incredibly delicious but quite heavy, making it hard to finish either dish. The salty dishes were definitely the highlights. The desserts were enjoyable but fairly typical, though the Malasada stood out as unique and tasty.
Diamond Head General Store does an excellent job of making you feel like you're back on the Big Island. The portion sizes are generous, and the flavors truly reflect the island. They always offer specials that keep you coming back for more.
The 'Almost Famous' fried chicken and donuts are absolutely incredible! The chicken is perfectly crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside, just how great fried chicken should be. The Moco Loco is spot on, with the gravy tying everything together beautifully. Definitely worth the wait in line—trust me, you won’t be disappointed!
The Morning Wood restaurant has transformed into a convenience store-style takeout spot, but they still deliver great food! While you can eat on-site, seating is limited with only a few chairs and tables available. Keep in mind that it's a self-service setup, so you'll need to find your own seat. The food is fantastic! I tried the loco moco with a beef patty, and it was spicy and flavorful. I'm actually tempted to drive there now to take some home. Note that they apply a 15% service fee for both dine-in and takeout orders.
