Bidrage med feedbackIf you are a fan of tequila, then Tres Agaves is the place for you. Located right next to AT&T Park, this trendy and upscale Mexican restaurant boasts a well-stocked tequila bar. When we visited on a Wednesday evening, the restaurant was bustling with customers. The main attraction here is definitely the drinks, with a variety of tequila flights to sample and a wide selection of margaritas. We tried the house margarita, which was delicious. While the drinks were top-notch, the food was just average. I ordered the carnitas, which was well-seasoned and tender, but the side dishes were mediocre.
Whenever somebody mentions going to El Torito or Chevy’s or some other sit down Mexican restaurant, I get on my soap box and vehemently argue how these “fancy” Mexican places are not worth the money and how hole-in-the-wall burrito joints are 10x better in terms of taste, flavors, and variety. Tres Agaves may be the one place that will turn my soap box over. The food and atmosphere are definitely not the same as your corner burrito shop, but, it is much better than other sit down Mexican restaurants.
I may be biased because I believe that SOMA is becoming the stripmall of SF with cookie cutter aesthetics for financial district yuppies, but overall, I thought Tres Agaves was okay. I think the food was fine, but nothing to write home about. If I’m going to eat “upscale” Mexican food, I’d rather head to Maya or Majita in the Ferry Building. And I was especially unhappy given the size of the bill at the end of the night.
The best margaritas in sf. hosted a party there for a friend, they were helpful and the food was great!
Tres Agaves is a great place for a few reasons: great food, good, friendly service, tasty margaritas (amazing tequila selection), and they stay open late—very important to this NYC-based late eater! If you have to wait for a table, amuse yourself by watching the bartenders make pitchers—they are serious about their margaritas! There’s a lively bar crowd, so you can skip dinner and duck in for drinks. But I recommend eating AND drinking!
