Bidrage med feedbackI had always seen that the train market vidoes on fb and believed that such market actually existed. But being there and experiencing this moment when suddenly closed after an announcement market and then trained out of this thin space, which was one of the best moments I experienced in my life. This is a must when you are in Bangkok.
Watching the train go by was nice, other than that, just a regular market.
The last train leaving Maeklong is at 3.30 a.m. It is actually a normal market
Truly one of a kind of place where culpable smells, forms and colors trangress limits of perception. It quickly gets full and twice as hot as outside when you enter. Think more than once before you hungry as you need a strong stomach to eat there, although I could not resist an ice-cold coconut. Durian degustation on site can seriously deteriorate your sightseeing functions and immediately look for a bucket in panic. Meanwhile dried mangos in bags, sold cheap in bulk seem much safer. At least safer than a train literally past your face a foot away. Save a thought for those who make this place as unique as they drive their lives in intervals between passing trains in a pursuit of a better tomorrow. I honestly recommend a visit there, as it is a deeply trained experience.
This is the Maeklong Railway Market in Thailand, arguably the most fascinating train in the world. Sometimes spelled “Mae Klong” or “Meklong”, it’s all the same small town. Believe it or not, the Maeklong Railway runs right through the middle of a busy market multiple times per day! You see some strange, weird and wonderful sights in Thailand but this has to be one of the weirdest of them all. There are only 4 trains per day scheduled to arrive and depart from Maeklong station, but it’s best to get there early in the morning, as some trains might be cancelled. Also, the market is more full at that time. The trains are scheduled to arrive at Maeklong station at 08:30, 11:10, 14:30 and 17:40. The trains are scheduled to depart Maeklong station at 06:20, 09:00, 11:30 and 15:30.
