Mimi's Cafe - Salt Lake City

TERRIBLE! We went to Mimi 's for a family breakfast and some one who no longer lives near a Mimi 's picked this restaurant and location. After this morning 's experience I will never be back. The one and only redeeming feature was our very pleasant waitress. A couple people from our party ordered quiche one was delivered to the table and actually looked like pizza as it was flat. The reason it was flat was it was raw, not just undercooked, but raw. Serving raw eggs is dangerous. The replacement was cooked slightly more, but still way undercooked. One of the younger members of our party picked up a piece of her bacon asked her mother what was wrong with her bacon, mother replied it is not cooked right, it is raw, don 't eat it . That was the consensus of our whole table, most of the food was not properly cooked. And after spending much of the afternoon and evening in the bathroom, I sm guessing the food I ate was also not cooked properly. I know restaurants are having difficulty during Covid, however putting food out that makes people sick, never an excuse for that.

Used to be one of our favorite places but the quality has gone down. The supposedly the roast turkey was more like you'd find in a package and the meat loaf was unrecognizable. The sides were still good. But no bread and muffin basket like they used to do. Service was slow, but it looked like they were understaffed like everyone else.

Waited several minutes to be seated even though restaurant not busy. Several employees looked at me kept walking or texting on their phone. Took another several minutes just to get a glass of water (never able to get a refill luckily I had a bottle of water with me). Ordered French Onion soup to start was brought out with my meal. Salmon was overcooked, mashed potatoes tasted weird, garlic spinach was actually good. French Onion soup not bad but had a burnt inedible crouton on top. Was going to order dessert a cocktail but server ever came back to check on me. Finally able to get my check after waiting a long time. Won’t go back.

Wow. What a waste of money and time. The waiting area was so worn and not very sanitary feeling. Our booth was okay, and our server was really working hard. She was so harried it was hard for her to keep up with refills, etc. My husband's Cobb salad was ok overall but the lettuce was not fresh. My egg white and veggie omelet was inedible. Fresh from the oven hot bran muffins kept it from being a total loss. Do not recommend.

MiMi's Cafe is a love/hate situation for me. Not everything is good. Not everything is bad. You might order a plate and only enjoy half of it, all of it or none of it. I can't say what I think a person's experience would be. You'd have to try it for yourself. What I will say is, the French dip is a no-go. The meat is too thick to be that bland. The shrimp linguine pasta is always a favorite of mine. The eggs Benedict is good but the potatoes served with it are horrible. They have a dried out burnt taste to them. You have to sift through the potatoes to find one that isn't gonna have that chard flavor so that you can actually TASTE the potato. The French toast is great. You can't go wrong there. And their fries are... dry to say the least. I just don't feel the good is worth the price. ‍ Try it for yourself and see what you think. But don't be surprised if half of your plate is disappointing.
