Views are fantastic of course. Considering how remote they are then I thought the food was very good if a little expensive. It's huge inside so presumably they get coach parties although I wouldn't fancy meeting a coach on those roads.
We had an excellent lunch at the Baume Auriol - fabulous local meat, very well prepared vegetables. The Baume overlooks the breathtaking Cirque de Navacelles. If you do not want to splurge for a full meal, snacks available (starting only in the afternoon), ice-creams and drinks on an open terrace. This place and the neighboring plateau was the site of intense demonstration in the 60s; times have changed; now a peaceful, well maintained, welcoming place for a delicious meal and experience.
The Languedoc is not a particularly favored region for restaurants, so this one stands out for the quality of its cuisine, as well as for its rather spectacular location, on the Larzac plateau, on the edge of the Cirque de Navacelles. My wife ordered lamb, and her dish was first rate. My portion of chicken filet stuffed with tiny crayfish was a little dry, although the vegetable accompaniment was excellent. The produce is local, including excellent bread, and service is friendly. There is a weekday noon menu at 18 euros; we intend to try it next time. Not quite a five star, but worth a visit.
Great views but beware its not the cheapest place to stop for drinks. The Citron Presse was not very strong. Costs nothing to look at the view.
