We drove to France to take a look at this small picturesque village by the sea. Since we had not eaten breakfast, we started the day in this café in the square. The croissant melted in my mouth and the omelet was so good. It was... a good place to relax and see the people from
Ah, go down to le Square Louis XIV in St. Jean. Just beyond the gazebo is Bar de la Marine with new blue chairs in 2018 and a deep blue awning and umbrellas to protect against the sun or rain. Smokers go against the wall...and have a safe place to puff. It does not bother us when we sit nearby. Ordering can take a while depending on the time of day, but it is worth it for quality and price. What do you want to start the day or after a meal elsewhere, un espresso or one noisette (with a touch of milk)? Excellent in taste, the best in St. Jean. We have never tasted the menu. And just over the little wall you have a view of masts of the port, a view of la Rhune mountain, and the unique church tower of Ciboure across the port. And if an orchestra is playing on a Sunday morning in summer, your ears will be treated or your eyes may see flamingo dancing from Spain. A treat to taste!
I meet an old friend every year at this cafe by Saint Jean de Luz harbor. It offers great cafe food. In addition it is situated on one of Saint Jean de Luz most beautiful location square, Place Louis XIV. I recommend it highly.
Outdoor seating on the main square is the story here...tables are quite small so we asked our server to push two together. If you are clever you can negotiate a croque monsieur for breakfast instead of their standard croissant-and-coffee-type offerings...it is one of the best...ones I have ever had.
