Only 1 other table was occupied which should have been a warning. By the end of our meal we felt a bit lonely sitting all alone in the large quiet restaurant. The decor is ‘trendy’ and staff young trendy men dressed all in black. Friendly enough. The open griddle being fed chunks of wood tempted me to order steak. What a disappointment. I could barely cut it let alone eat it. It supplied us with a meal which we needed but not enjoyable. Very much a case of style over substance.

We were en Route to Fontenay le Comte and decided that we needed to have a bite to eat and came across the Restaurant Chez Charles off to the side of the road. The restaurant is located just behind the tourist information office. We were able to get a table without having previously reserved. We elected to have the menu du jour which offered a selection of two starters and two main courses, followed by dessert and coffee for a fixed price of €14 per person. We both had an avocado and salad starter followed by beef cheeks in a red wine sauce served on a bed of mashed potato and mixed root vegetables. The dessert was a chocolate mousse. The food was delicious and well presented. We had a look at the à la carte menu and fixed price menus as a matter of interest and the menus varied in price fro €24 €40 which although not cheap looked interesting and good value for money. Would definitely recommend this restaurant for good food and good value. It was very much a restaurant where locals dined.

A real time out of time, it is so rare to have a restaurant that offers everything that is best: a wonderful local house cuisine, a magnificent setting with the fireplace fire and while telling the owners! Very good restaurant. very nice acceui was the 3 times that we came on Saturday night.We had a very good time.Continue as it does not change anything very soon.
